School Level Goal:
All MAH scholars will benefit from increased family and
community engagement that provides positive educational and
career opportunities for students.
Title I Annual Meeting
Families and community members were invited to attend the Title I Annual Meeting on
Wednesday, October 2, 2013 to learn about our school’s Title I programs and requirements. The
meeting was held in the School, Family & Community Center at 4:30 pm. Families and
community members were able to review and provide feedback in the following areas:

School-Parent Compact
The School - Parent Compact is a communication tool for parents, school staff, and students. The
School – Parent Compact is an agreement explaining how school staff, parents, and students will
support each other to ensure that students are successful.

The School – Parent Compact will be addressed in the following manner:

Quarterly Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parents were able to provide feedback weekly during morning meeting on Mondays

We will accommodate all families by providing:

Title I Parent Involvement Allocation
As part of our school’s Title I program, we receive additional funds each year that help support
the implementation of our Parent Involvement Plan.
FY 13 Allocation: $3258.00
Parents were invited on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 4:30 pm to give input on how these
dollars should be spent. Parents were also able to provide feedback during Back to School night
on Thursday, September 19, 2013 and a morning meeting on Thursday, October 3, 2013.
Students backpacked the budget form home and students returning the compact and budget form
will receive a husky buck for returned forms. We will work together to create the Title I Parent
Involvement Spending Plan.
Parent Programs
Celebrating Grandparent’s Day, September 9, 2012: Grandparents attend a luncheon hosted
by students. The day includes a math lesson that grandparents engage in jointly with students.
The lesson/activity was designed to assist the adult in working with students at home to acquire
calculation and problem-solving skills. No cost.
Family Literacy Night, October 30, 2013 at 5:00 pm: Families and students in Pk-5th are able
to engage in activities that target students’ areas of need in literacy. The event also gives families
additional ways to support their students’ literacy learning at home. Cost:$500 towards
incentives and food.
Family Math Night, November 20, 2013, at 5:00 pm: Families and students in Pk-5th are able
to engage in activities that target students’ areas of need in math. The event also gives families
additional ways to support their students’ math learning at home. Cost:$500 towards incentives
and food.
Parent Portal Training, October 30, 2013 at 5:00 pm: Parents will receive support in
monitoring their children access to the internet and navigating online services for parents.
Parents will also be offered training throughout year. Cost: TBA
Volunteer Recognition and Appreciation Banquet, February, 2013: The event is designed to
show appreciation for the hard work that volunteers are doing within and outside of the school
that supports MAH scholars’ achievement. Cost: TBA.
Anti-Bullying and Nonviolence Workshop, February, 2013: The event is designed as a forum
for families, students, and community members to discuss the impact of bullying and violence
within the school and community. The attendees will be provided with information on bullying
and strategies that can help to decrease it. The attendees will create a collaborative plan that
shareholders will implement to decrease bullying and violence within the school and community.
Cost: TBA.
Workshop: Preparing Parents for Standardized Testing, February, 2013: This session will
provide detailed information related to MSA and Stanford 10 assessments. It will identify ways
parents can assist their child in preparing for and performing well on standardized tests. Cost:
TBA.
Are You Ready for Middle School, November 9, 2013, 9-12 pm: This activity is designed to
assist parents and students in the middle school selection process. Schools are invited to come
and share information about their programs. Parents and students can ask questions and get
information about applying to the individual schools. Cost: TBA.
Partner Programs
Omega Psi Phi, SY 13-14: The fraternity offers a variety of opportunities that include, but is not
limited to resources, mentoring, field trips, tutoring, Saturday school, & Career Day ( November,
2013).
Coppin State University, SY 13-14: the University offers support in the classroom, tutoring,
resources, and Saturday school.
Matthew A. Henson Neighborhood Association, SY 13-14: The association offers support
through volunteering and community resources.
Office of Early Learning, SY 13-14: the Office of Early Learning supports the early learning
program at MAH through a variety of workshops.
New Beginnings, SY 12-13: the organization assists in supporting attendance goals.
Dynasty Marching Band, SY 13-14: the organization provides a positive afterschool program
for students to learn teamwork, discipline, and maintaining a healthy body.
PartyMarty, SY 13-14: the business provides resources for the school’s yearly end of the year
event.
FutureCare Sandtown, SY 13-14: the health & management facility offers a yearly October
event and invites students from surrounding schools.
Tavon Mason, former New York Jet, April, 2013: coordinator of Sports Day, an event
designed to engage MAH students in physical activities.
Dance Baltimore, SY 13-14: The organization provides opportunities for MAH parents to
improve and support their physical health through dance. Saturday dance classes in October.
Girls Scouts, 13-14: The organization works with MAH 3rd-5th grade students to help
them build courage, confidence, and courage.
U2Can Organization, 13-14: The organization provides guidance, support, and training to
parents to support their children’s learning in reading. Workshops with a focus on a
variety of topics every 3rd Tuesday of the month from September, 2013 to May, 2014.
Easterwood SY 13-14
Smart Steps Before and Aftercare: SY 13-14: provided before and aftercare for MAH
students. Offers activities, such as tutoring, Zumba, dance, and arts.
