COMPLICATIONS RATE ON 337 PATIENTS UNDERGOING THULIUM LASER ENUCLEATION (THULEP) FOR BPH: THE KEY ROLE OF MORCELLATION PROCESS G. Bozzini, A. Macchi, S. Picozzi, C. Marenghi, S. Maruccia, B. Osmolovskiy, A. Kamalov, L. Carmignani (Milano) Scopo del lavoro To assess the perioperative and postoperative complication rate of ThuLEP with regards to morcellation process after the laser procedure. To assess whether this complications have any effect on hospitalization length. Materiali e metodi A cooperation between the University of Milan and Moscow was settled. Prospective study that analyzes complication rate due to the morcellation process after completing thullium laser procedure in a group of 337 consecutive patients that underwent ThuLEP was performed. Complication related to the morcellation procedure were recorded. Patients’ hospitalization length were evaluated after discharge only considering patients that were not re-admitted because of a surgical related issue. Statistical analysis was performed by the Student t and chi-square Test and logistic regression analysis. For all statistical comparisons significance was considered at p<0.05. Risultati Mean age was 67.8 years. Five complications were recorded. Bladder suction with wall damage, Bleeding due to “ex vacuo” fast empting, suction problem, morcellation impairment and prolonged morcellation time. The table show the complications rate and their correlation with a prolonged hospital stay. A statistical significance between the complication and the prolonged hospital stay found only for Bladder suction. Discussione Complications related to the morcellation procedure after Laser enucleation (ThuLEP) causes prolonged hospitalization length only in the case of bladder suction. Other complications, even if are related to a slower operative time, do not mean a prolonged Hospitalization. Conclusioni Complications related to the morcellation process during ThuLEP cause prolonged hospitalization length only in the case of bladder damage.
