Eastview Community Foundation 2012 Scholarships The Eastview Community Foundation (EVCF) offers over 100 Scholarships for High School Seniors. An on-line scholarship application form will be available March 1, 2012 at EVHS NAVIANCE Family Connection. The completed scholarship application must be submitted via NAVIANCE Family Connection by midnight Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012. No late applications will be accepted. Teacher recommendations must be turned into the Counseling Office by 4:00 Wednesday, April 4th (earlier if at all possible). Instructions: 1) Follow the instructions on NAVIANCE Family Connection. The survey is entitled "Eastview Community Foundation Scholarship” and can be found on the upper left hand section of the “About Me” page. You must also submit at least one letter of recommendation. This can be one written specifically for the scholarship(s) for which you are applying or you can use a general recommendation for applying to colleges. For each EVCF scholarship you wish to be considered, please complete an essay of no more than one page (unless otherwise indicated). Please read the detailed description below for the essay prompt. Many prompts are similar, but some are different. If an essay is required and you do not submit it – you will NOT be considered for that scholarship. For show of financial need, describe your challenges & submit the page of your FAFSA report showing your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) towards college expenses. Submit this form to Diane Mathews in the Counseling office. Do not include the entire FAFSA report. Please review additional scholarship requirements listed below. Anchor Bank Community: One (1) $750 scholarship available Sponsored by Anchor Bank, Apple Valley MN This scholarship recognizes an EVHS senior with a strong combined record of community service, academic achievement and student activities. An essay describing your general involvement in these three areas is required. Academics, activities and financial need may be considered. An essay describing your involvement in community service and interest in global affairs is required. Band Scholarship: Two (2) $600 scholarships available Sponsored by a Dream Maker Candidate must a 4 year band student who is currently in Wind Ensemble or Jazz I. Candidate may feel overlooked at times, but are a good player and have received a “Superior” rating in a solo and ensemble contest. Your GPA must be between 3.7 and 3.9. Basketball, Boys: Two (2) $500 scholarships available Sponsored by 6th Man Club Basketball Boosters The “Lightning Basketball” scholarship recognizes that the Lightning Boys Basketball Program is built on the belief that in order to win championships, you must be surrounded by champions. The program promotes the characteristics of integrity, discipline, and pride in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the community. The “Lightning Basketball” scholarship is given in recognition of the player who best displays these characteristics. Eligibility requirements include: graduating senior, member of the EVHS Varsity Boys Basketball team, pursuing post secondary education, personal recommendation from teacher, coach, co-curricular leader or family friend, and a personal statement regarding how the candidate has promoted the characteristics of integrity, discipline and pride in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the community. Communications Excellence: One (1) $1,000 scholarship available Sponsored by the Shonka Family and Impax The ideal candidate for the Excellence in Communications scholarship is a student who has achieved success in the very broad field of communications throughout their high school years. While speech and debate are two fine examples, this scholarship is not limited to only these activities. Others may include journalism, the arts, broadcasting, advertising, mass communications, marketing, etc. Show your creativity by describing your excellence in communications in your required one-page essay. At least one letter of recommendation is also required. A college letter of recommendation would work just fine. Essay required – “Describe how your cross country experiences will impact your future.” Winner must have participated in EVHS girls Cross Country for two or more years, including their senior year. Dakota County Electric: Two (2) $600 scholarships available Sponsored by the Dakota Electric Association Applicant must be an EVHS senior who demonstrates some degree of financial need, possesses a strong work ethic, and plans to attend a two or four year college or university. An essay describing your overall goals for your post-secondary plans is required. Dakota County Technical College Presidential Scholarship: One (1) $1,000 scholarship available Sponsored by Dakota County Technical College Applicant must be accepted into a program of study at DCTC, attend Fall semester 2012, and register as a fulltime student (12 credits or more) by July 1st, 2012. An essay describing your overall goals in attending DCTC is required. Dance - LDT: Two (2) $500 scholarships available Sponsored by EVHS Lightning Dance Team Boosters Applicant must have participated on the Lightning Dance Team Varsity team. Essay required – “How has being involved with the Eastview Lightning Dance Team contributed to your development as a person?” Other judging criteria include school activities, GPA, community achievement and program achievement. Debate Scholarship: One (1) $750 scholarship available Sponsored by an anonymous source Senior members of the 2011-2012 debate team are invited to apply for this scholarship. Eligible candidates must have participated on the EVHS debate team for at least two years (with one being the senior year), hold a 3.0 GPA or higher, and be attending college/university in the fall of 2012. Candidates will be evaluated in three areas: essay response (50%), demonstrated enthusiasm for and dedication to the debate team (33%) and previously earned debate awards and titles (17%). The donor is seeking interesting and thoughtful written responses of no more than one page to the question “What does it mean to be a successful person.” Show your enthusiasm for and dedication to the debate team by submitting either a brief personal statement or student resume which summarizes your efforts on behalf of the team. In addition, a letter of recommendation from a teacher or coach is required. Richard Dewey Educator: One (1) $500 scholarship available Sponsored by the friends of Dr. Dewey and the Eastview community to honor Dr. Dewey’s career in education and his leadership at EVHS. This is a scholarship for a student wishing to pursue a teaching career. An essay is required. Write about a teacher who has made an impact on you and inspired you to pursue a teaching career. Letter of recommendation from an EVHS teacher is required. Eastview Puzzle Piece Scholarship: Four (4) $500 scholarships available Sponsored by EVCF In the planning stages of Eastview High School, community members came together to describe a learning environment that would one day form the foundation of a new school. The words they listed affectionately become known as the puzzle pieces. The cornerstones of the puzzle are respect, trust, integrity and honestly. This scholarship represents the student that embodies the Eastview Puzzle. In a one page essay, please describe which piece of the puzzle you best represent. Engineering: One (1) $1,000 scholarship available Sponsored by the Spaniol Family Candidate must be accepted into a 4-year Engineering degree program. GPA needs to be 3.3 or better. Candidate must demonstrate that they have taken the Honors, AP Math and Science course work necessary to support their future studies. This includes AP Calculus AB and/or BC and AP Science course work with a grade of B or better by or in the first three quarters of their senior year. Essay is required – “If you are selected to receive this scholarship, how do you see yourself ‘Paying it forward’ when you are employed?” At the end of your essay, please list the advanced coursework you have taken and the grades you have received. EspindaBanick Ohana Scholarship: One (1) $500 scholarship available Sponsored by The EspindaBanick Family This scholarship is for a senior who excels in a combination of activities while maintaining a challenging academic workload and involvement in extra-curricular activities throughout the student’s high school career. Eligibility criteria: Must have a GPA between 3.7 and 3.9 Must have earned a minimum of 4 non-academic letters over your high school career Must have averaged taking 3 Honors/AP courses per year over your high school career Must be an EVHS senior enrolling in a post-secondary program School and community activities may also be considered. Financial need will not be considered. An information summary and essay are required. Please provide the following: List the Honors/AP courses you have taken at Eastview (course title and school year it was taken) List the non-academic letters you have earned at Eastview (activity and school year it was awarded) Explain how you were able to excel inside and outside the classroom while maintaining both a challenging academic workload and participating in a multiple extra-curricular activities Explain how the activities and challenges you took on during high school have prepared you for your post-secondary goals. Community involvement, program achievements, school activities and GPA will all be considered. Applicant must clearly describe how their experience with EVAA as a participant has improved their lives. Essay required – “How has being involved with EVAA contributed to your development as a person?” Letter of recommendation is required. You may use a college letter of reference if applicable. Describe the number of years in which you participated in EVAA – from elementary school through high school. EVAA Traveling Baseball: One (1) $500 scholarship available EVAA Baseball Program Available for an EVHS senior eligible to graduate in June of 2012 who will pursue a post secondary school after graduation. Applicant must have participated in EVAA traveling baseball. EVAA Soccer: Four (4) $500 scholarships available – 2 boys, 2 girls EVAA Soccer Program Essay required - “How was being involved with EVAA Soccer contributed to your development as a person.” With regards to EVAA, candidate must provide in detail what sports (especially soccer) you have participated in at each grade level. Also, please provide in detail any support you’ve given directly to the EVAA Soccer program. At a minimum, candidates must have participated in the Spring or Fall soccer clinic that is held at the start of each EVAA soccer season. Criteria judged will focus on program achievements and your essay. EVAA Softball: Two (2) $500 scholarships available EVAA Softball Program Available for an EVHS female senior eligible to graduate in June of 2012 who will pursue college after graduation. How you are planning to prepare yourself for your chosen field. How will the Flint Hills Resources Discovery Scholarship help you achieve your goals in college and beyond? Write a short essay describing your career aspirations regarding teaching and how you plan to attain them. Also comment on what this scholarship would mean to you. Tennis, Girls: One (1) $500 scholarship available Sponsored by the Allen Family The preferred applicants for this scholarship will be EVHS female seniors who played girls’ tennis all 4 years of high school. Please indicate in your essay the number of years and in which grades you played. You do not need to have been a Varsity player. Wrestling: One (1) $500 scholarship available Sponsored by Eastview Wrestling Booster Club Applicants must be an EVHS Senior eligible to graduate June 2012 who plans to pursue study at a post secondary school after graduation. Candidate must have completed the Eastview wrestling program their senior year in good standing. Must have maintained a 3.0 cumulative academic GPA or higher. Must have no violations of MN State High School League rules by application date. Candidate’s parents/guardians must be current members of EWB. Scholarship payment will be made upon receipt of student’s first semester post secondary transcript. Essay required, not limited to senior year (300 word maximum) – “Please explain why you are a good candidate for this scholarship and how your involvement with Eastview wrestling contributed to your development as a person.” The more years involved with the Eastview High School wrestling program, the better. A letter of recommendation is required.
