Principal’s Message
At EGMJH, we believe that all students can learn.
Therefore, we hold high expectations for all students and
staff. We expect students to come to class prepared, to
make learning their focus and always try their best. If
students need support in meeting these expectations, we are
here to help! Staff at EGMJH are dedicated to ensuring
students receive the support they need to learn, whether it is
support in a subject area, organizational skills, or everyday
support and/or advice on navigating life as a teenager.
All parents/students can check our On-Line Student-Parent
Portal. This program offers both students and
parents/guardians real-time access to students’ grades,
assignments, attendance, teacher comments and school
bulletins through the internet using the student –parent
portal website. Parents/guardians and students that have not
received their login and password can pick up the letter in
the office during school hours.
Also, check out our school website at
http://www.egmjh.ednet.ns.ca/ for more information and let
us know if you would like to see other information
included.
Thank you for all your support,
Scott Wadden
Principal
*Just a reminder, in case of a school cancellation, that we

Destination Imagination
Destination Imagination is an educational activity in which
students work in teams to solve open-ended challenges and
present their solutions at tournaments. Teams are tested to
work together and devise original solutions to presented
challenges. Participants gain more than just basic
knowledge and skills -- they learn to unleash their
imagination and take unique approaches to problem solving.
We will be having 4 teams this year; one in each of the
categories that HRSB is hosting at their tournament.
These are:
-Scientific ("In Plain Sight")
-Structural ("Musical Mashup")
-Service Learning ("The Meme Event")
-Fine Arts ("Get a Clue")
The tournament date is Saturday, April 9th at Auburn High.
Students will be asked to attend a few meetings, fill out an
application form, and discuss with parents whether or not
this program is suited for you. Final teams will be posted
before Christmas Break so students can get to work solving
their challenges. For more information please visit:

Tigers Athletics News
Boys and Girls Football
Hats off to our boys and girls teams. The boys’ team
finished in the middle of the pack in a very competitive
division, while the girls were runner’s up! Way to go teams
and thank you to Mr. MacInnis for all of your coaching
expertise!
Hello everyone. Before we get into the meat of our athletic
recap a little information on what division we compete in as
a school.
There are 4 levels of competition; 1. We are a part of the
Dartmouth Division which encompasses local school in our
area. 2. Beyond this is the Akerely Division which is
composed of all schools in our area and in what is now
known as the Eastern Division schools (formerly Dartmouth
County). 3. Capital Region is all schools in Dartmouth,
Halifax, the former Dartmouth County and the former
Halifax County…so all schools competing in HRSB. 4. The
final level is the Provincial Championships. We only
compete at this level if we qualify in the following sports:
Cross Country, Badminton and Track and Field.
Cross Country
Our team competed at both the Akerley Zone and Capital
Zone meets this year. This was the first time we have had a
team since 2012. That being said we would like to send a
huge Tiger thank you to Mrs. Constable for taking the time
to organize and coach our students. The Intermediate boys
brought home the Akerley Zone banner with prominent
performances by Kyle Gouthro (1st overall) and Mark
McCoy (4th place).
Boys Soccer
Our boys’ soccer team had a successful season. Their team
leadership, encouragement and camaraderie was
outstanding. Thank you again to Mrs. Constable for
coaching along with community member Anthony Sarto for
investing in our students on a daily basis.
Girls Soccer
WOW!!!! What a season!!!!! The girls put it all out there
this year. Not only did they win the Dartmouth Division but
they went on to win the Akerley banner and then the Capital
Region championship banner and the Capital Region
consists of 33 competing junior high schools. Thank you so
much to Deryck Richardson for coaching our girls.
Hockey Team
Lead by coaches Scott Gouthro and Jason Pack, our Tigers
on ice are having their best season in recent memory! This
year’s team has been taking the league by storm and is
getting ready for the playoffs. GO TIGERS!!
