Post-op Protocals:
o Attending specific – Verify Following Each Case
o General: 4 weeks of lovenox for many patients. Upper extremity can often go out on ASA
o Antibiotics:
 Ancef 1000mg q8h x 3 doses for extremities.
 Vancomycin 1000mg q12 hours x 48 hours.
o Follow-up 2 weeks unless otherwise noted


o Morning AM Trauma Rounds: All review patients, note orders and daily plan
o Intern and NPs: Complete Daily floor work. Intern meets NP’s on Round Week to divide up work:
orders, discharge summaries, etc.


 Discuss previous week’s cases and discuss technique and thought process (fellows prepare)

o Become proficient performing a history and physical exam.
o Know the indications for radiologic imaging as well as the interpretation of these tests.
o Be able to formulate a differential diagnosis.
o Understand the concepts of non-operative treatment, indications for/risks of surgery, and basic principles of
postoperative rehabilitation.
o Be able to select reasonable implants for specific fracture types
