We believe bullying means repeated verbal or physical acts against another. Initially all children should use the Three Step Rule: 1. Please stop it 2. Please stop it, I don’t like it 3. Tell an adult Bullying means repeated unacceptable behaviour, and having tried the three step rule, continuation of this behaviour: Mild hitting, kicking or punching (if actually hurt, contact an adult immediately) Teasing, swearing or unkind remarks Gestures meant to insult Deliberately excluding others Cyber Bullying using texts or other internet based communication Forcing others to be friends Taking or hiding something when you know the owner doesn’t want you to have it. This includes equipment, belongings, lunch etc. Making threats We do not like this kind of behaviour and will not accept it. We encourage all our children to talk to adults in charge of them knowing that they will be listened to. We will then quickly, firmly and fairly deal with it. ‘Playground Buddys’ are trained Yr5 children, and will also be available for any children to talk to. They will be identified at playtime and lunchtime by an orange hi-vis jacket with ‘Buddy’ across the front. They will make contact with an adult or support a child while they report any acts of bullying should a child require it. The aim of any intervention is to make the victim feel safe and to encourage better behaviour from the bully. We will investigate any reports and make sure the relevant members of staff are informed. Should investigations prove that bullying is occurring the Leadership Team will be informed and take responsibility for deciding the appropriate course of action. The members of the Leadership Team are Miss West, Mrs Veryard, Mr Beauford and Mrs Wheeler. All incidents will be written down. In most cases the approach used will be: Members of the Leadership Team will discuss the ‘problem’ with a group of children Anti-Bullying Policy – January 2008. Feelings, actions and desires will be discussed by all the children and a plan of action drawn up. The children will then have a few days to resolve the situation and a date made to come back and discuss how things are going. If this is successful the group will be monitored over a period of time to check that the situation remains resolved. Parents will be informed through discussion with the Leadership Team and the children involved. Working together is an important part of the process. At all times our first duty is to the child being bullied. Anti-Bullying Policy – January 2008.
