Dear parents of my 9th grade Accelerated Biology students,

Dear parents of my Biology students,
There are two excellent movies that I show my students during the course of my
Biology class if time and opportunity presents itself. Both are movies that my students
have typically not seen before because they are a few years old. Both movies fit in very
well with my curriculum and each is an excellent visual stimulus for writing prompts I
have developed. The movies are:
Outbreak: Outbreak is an excellent movie showing the spread of the Ebola virus
through a community and how epidemiologists use the scientific method to solve this life
threatening problem within this community. It discusses in detail the biological
components of viruses and our body’s immune system.
GATTACA: GATTACA is an excellent movie which compliments our unit on
DNA. It is a futuristic movie which demonstrates various aspects of genetic engineering
and how DNA can be used to solve crimes.
I am asking for permission to show these movies to your child. Please indicate
your choice below. If you chose not to allow your child to view these movies for
whatever reason they will not be penalized. I will provide them with an optional
assignment. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mrs. R. O’Neill
