You will be responsible for bringing them each time you are scheduled to work. No friends/family may visit or call you while you are here completing your scheduled Community Service hours. Community Service volunteers are not allowed in the treatment room, euthanasia room, behind the front office counter, or in the Humane Society vehicles. No Community Service volunteer or family member may adopt an animal from the St. Joseph County Humane Society during the time period that Community Service is being performed or within one month after completion of Community Service hours. Community Service volunteers are not allowed to discuss any animals housed in the quarantine area of the shelter. You will be assigned a timecard. You are responsible for having the front office personnel sign you in or out. If you forget to notify them so they may mark it on your timecard, you will not receive credit for hours worked that day. Dress appropriately. You will be working with chemicals (i.e. bleach) that may damage clothes. NO SHORTS, NO TANK TOPS, NO SANDALS ARE PERMITTED. The Humane Society is open to the public and often our visitors are children. You must conduct yourself in a professional and appropriate manner. NO PROFANITY. NO NAME CALLING. NO BAD ATTITUDES. NO RUDENESS. You must supply, in writing, your Community Service hours. Once completed, your schedule will be treated as a NORMAL EMPLOYMENT SCHEDULE. We will not tolerate unapproved schedule changes. You must report tardiness or illness at least ONE HOUR prior to your scheduled arrival time. “No Call/No Show” will result in immediate termination from our Community Service program. Should you need to change your schedule, you must do so 24 hours in advance. All schedule information and subsequent variations from that schedule will be shared with your probation officer. If you must reschedule any of your hours for a medical/dental appointment you must provide written notification from your health care provider to return and complete the remainder of your Community Service hours. Should you fail to provide written notification upon returning, you will not receive credit for hours worked and will result in immediate termination. If you work a 6-8 hour day, you are entitled to a 30 minute lunch break. A supervisor must approve your lunch break prior to taking it. You must have front office personnel sign you in/out for any break. NO SMOKING except while on lunch break and off the clock. Smoking is allowed only outdoors, please see personnel for appropriate area(s). If you are found to be smoking on the clock, the result will be immediate termination. No cellular telephones may be used while completing Community Service hours. No headphones may be used while completing Community Service hours. The possession or use of illegal drugs, alcohol, or firearms on Humane Society property is prohibited and will be reported to the authorities, and will also result in immediate termination. Community Service volunteers will be working at all times while on the clock. If you complete all given tasks, consult with a staff member for other work to be done. Any Community Service volunteer found loitering while on the clock will be immediately terminated. When working with the animals, there is always a risk of injury. You are expected to follow all safety guidelines and staff directions. You will be held accountable for your own actions and the results of those actions. I have read and understand the above guidelines for my Community Service at the St. Joseph County Humane Society. I understand that any violation of these guidelines may result in immediate termination from this program. I understand that the St. Joseph County Humane Society does not assume responsibility for any lost, stolen, or damaged property. Furthermore, the St. Joseph County Humane Society will not be held liable for any injury sustained while doing Community Service.
