The Coulee Region Humane Society of La Crosse, WI has an immediate opening for a Kennel Operations
Manager.
The Coulee Region Humane Society actively promotes the humane treatment of animals and positive
human-animal relationships. Coulee Region Humane Society is a nonprofit, open admission agency serving
La Crosse and the surrounding area. We provide sheltering, redemption, adoption and lost/found services;
animal control/compliance; wildlife services; dog training and behavior consultation and low cost
spay/neuter programs. Our humane education and Pet Therapy programs reach several thousand
community members each year. Coulee Region Humane Society is a thriving organization with a strong

The Kennel Operations Manager is responsible for overall management of kennel operations to include
animal care, housing, medical and veterinary services, health and behavioral evaluations and adoption
counseling. This position will create, implement and oversee policies and procedures related to kennel
operations and in support of the mission of Coulee Region Humane Society.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide policy and procedure development and oversight for:
 Animal care housing, husbandry, exercise, socialization, and medication administration according to
industry standards.
 Animal medical care triage and the referral for veterinary services in conjunction with the Animal
Health Committee.
 Adoption counseling and adoption approvals.
 Surrender and adoption follow up.
 Euthanasia practices.
Staff Management:
 Recruit, hire, supervise, and develop staff in the positions of Animal Care/Adoption Counseling,
Lead Care Giver, and Operations Assistant. Provides support to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Animal Care:
 Leads the Animal Health Committee.
 Oversee policy and procedure for behavior evaluations according to industry standards; conduct
behavior evaluations and make adoption placement/transfer/euthanasia determinations based on
history, evaluation and observation.
 Select animals for spay/neuter services; schedule surgeries with veterinary clinics; coordinate
transportation to/from clinic; record/allocate services to applicable expense/grant fund.
 Select animals for medical services; collaborate with applicable clinic, ensure appropriate follow up
care, document services and communicate medical services/conditions to adopters.
 Maintain Rabies Trainer Observer certification; perform and document applicable rabies checks and
release animals from Rabies Quarantine.
 Maintain a basic Wildlife Rehabilitator’s license and assist Animal Control in the care, maintenance
and euthanasia of wildlife, as needed.
 Ensure compliance with DATCP Dog Seller licensing and inspection procedures, including
maintaining and revising relevant policy and procedure, overseeing the coordinating of CVI’s and
documentation as required by Act 90.
Community Outreach and Organization Support:
 Serve as the liaison between CRHS and community placement partners and local medical service
providers.
 Collaborate with Grants Assistant and Executive Director for grant proposals.
 Prepare budgetary recommendations for the Animal Care and Building/Maintenance departments.
Qualifications:
 Relevant technical degree or equivalent work experience.
 3+ years in Kennel Operations at supervisor or management level, preferably in shelter or animal
welfare environment.
 Proven animal handling experience.
 Excellent customer service skills and ability to maintain a professional public image.
 Euthanasia Certification or ability to obtain certification.
 Rabies Trained Observer Certification or ability to obtain certification.
 Wildlife Rehabilitator’s License or ability to obtain licensure.
 Able to work with minimal supervision.
 Computer literate and able to operate office equipment.
 Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
 Able to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
 Valid Driver’s License.
 Passion for issues relating to animal welfare.
 Ability to provide current, advised rabies and distemper vaccinations and proof of annual health
examinations and required licenses, for each employee-owned cat or dog.
 Ability to work in an environment which may be high-stress and emotionally demanding.
