Clubs and movements
JOURNALISM CLUB.
Journalism club is a recently founded club in the school. It consists of about fifteen
students who are the pioneers of the club. With the increasing number of current
events and the easy accessibility of information from the various resources supplied in
the school, the future journalists compile reports ranging from educative,
entertainment and relaxation.
Environmental club
This is a club that consists of people passionate about the environment and all its
entails. Each year, it comes up with a new theme or subject matter to tackle.
This year’s theme is THE CLIMATE CHANGE CHALLENGE. The club looked at
the use of plastic bags sustainably to tackle the possible local causes of climate
change.
The club is actively involved in sharing ideas with not only the young people but also
the old in making the environment better.
CHAMA CHA KISWAHILI
Unique and one of its kind, the club is determined to remind people to embrace their
mother language Kiswahili. A few passionate young girls have discovered the
inability of most students, though fluent in English and other languages, to effectively
communicate grammatically correct Kiswahili. We have taken it into our stride to
encourage them to speak Kiswahili on specific days in school i.e. Monday and
Wednesday.
It is our motive that the positive minded students will by the end of the year have
improved their communication skills and vocabulary in the language through their
own efforts.
Christian union
The Young Cristian Society [YCS] is an International Society focussed on developing
and strengthening the spread of the word of God to the young, especially those in
schools. It is made of a great number of Catholic youth all bent on inspiring the word
in people's hearts. YCS GATANGA GIRLSThe need to nurture spirituality in
today's youth is great, despite the social or economic background. It is with this in
mind that the Gatanga girls communinity decided to include all its Christian students
into the society, and not only the Catholic, as was previosly the case. All members of
the school community therefore belong to this society and are welcome despite their
religious affiliations. POLITICAL STRUCTUREThe society has a committed
patron Sr. King'ori, through whom any guidance, help or support is very readily
available for each student. The society also has a committee in place for smooth
running of activities with annual elections, held to freshen ideas. This committee
assists in leading in events, organisation and development of creativity in these
youth. ACTIVITIESThe members of the club hold fortnght meetings on sundays in
the school to share experiences, worship, fellowship and support each other spiritually.
Frequent prayer guidance and empowerment are observed in these refreshing
meetings so dearly loved by all where everyone leaves re-energised.
The school has various facilities which makes a condusive environment for
learning and better academic perfomance. This includes:
5 Science laboratories
3 Computer laboratories
A well stocked library
