EXTRA CURRICULAR MINI (5-week) SESSION
May-June 2013
Dear Parents,
Spring has arrived and with it comes the 5 week Extra-Curricular Mini Session. If you are interested in
registering for a course, please fill out both sides of the registration form and return it with full
payment. Please note: there are no discounts during the spring session.
Classes fill quickly, the only way to ensure proper delivery of your form is to hand it intothe EDP office
personally. If you prefer, you may also hand it in to your child’s teacher in an envelope marked
ATTENTION: EDP.
The deadline for registration is Friday May 3rd, 2013. Please make your cheque or money order
payable to the Willingdon EDP. Cheques will be cashed on Friday May 10th, 2013.
Babysitting Services* and Sibling Supervision** are available daily for courses between the hours of
3:35-6:15pm.
* If your child’s class begins after 3.45PM, or if you need your child to wait with the EDP between the
end of their class and 6.15PM, you must register for the babysitting service. Cost= $3 per day.
** Siblings of children taking courses can take part in EDP programming while their sibling is in their
course. Cost= $6 per day.
Courses begin: Tuesday May 7th, Wednesday May 8th, and Thursday May 9th
Courses end: Tuesday June 4th, Wednesday June 5th, and Thursday June 6th.
EXCEPTION: Clay – begins Tuesday April 30th and ends May 28th.
Due to Willingdon School’s security protocol, we ask that parents/guardians pick up and drop off
children only. Adults are not permitted to wait on-site during their child’s class.

Exploring Clay (1-3) (4-6) with Sally Verrall
“Get your hands dirty!” We will be making new, exciting sculptures out of air dried clay. Projects may include
crazy creatures, gargoyles and dragons, unicorns and castles.

Drama Improv (1-3) (4-6) with Louise Standjofski
This class is fun, fun and more fun, without the pressure of performance! Play the Improv games you love with
strange props and wacky costumes.

Dance Expression with Atelier Turcotte
Dance Expression is a one hour curriculum that explores four different styles of dance each class. Versatility
and appreciation of many dance forms is fostered as the dancer discovers and practices:

Improvisation ; the teacher uses descriptive words to guide the experience.
Classical ballet bar & centre; exercises are practiced to develop proper dance style and technique.
Tap dance; basic steps, new rhythms, and increasingly challenging combinations are explored.
Jazz moves; dancers learn to dance to the beat of popular music, plus learn new dance leaps & turns.
Each child will need ballet or gymnastics shoes & comfy clothes to stretch in. Tap shoes not necessary.

Our Grade 4-6 students will be taking a supervised walk over to Atelier Turcotte’s studio located at 6111
Monkland Ave. where they will participate in the Dance Expression class with students from the greater NDG
community. Children will not be returning to the EDP, therefore parents must pick their children up
promptly at Atelier Turcotte at 6:00PM.
Yoga (2-6)
Yoga is a form of exercise that can be practiced our whole lives. It improves focus, develops body awareness, and
improves motor coordination and joint mobility, while increasing lung capacity. Join Specialist Jaime Moar as she
teaches breathing exercises, yoga postures, and deep relaxation with sound and music therapy.
Please note: children bring their own yoga mats.

The Great Treasure Hunt (K-2)
Prepare to embark on a magical adventure filled with thrilling challenges! Discover hidden islands, solve ancient
puzzles, outwit pirates, and more. Let your treasure map guide you, as each challenge takes you one step closer
to collecting your treasure. Course includes: personal treasure for each child, physical/mental team challenges,
teamwork and coordination. All new activities this year!

Music and Ukulele (K-3)
Join accomplished ukulele instructor Ron Griffin, for a journey through different types of music. Students will
learn songs and play them together campfire style! Ukuleles will be provided so children can play, sing, or do
both. Aspiring drummers will enjoy playing a variety of exciting percussion instruments as well!

Guitar (2-6)
Join multi-instrumentalist Ron Griffin for this inspiring guitar course. Students of all levels will benefit from his
unique and intuitive approach. Whether you already play the guitar or are just beginning, this course will help
you on your way. Through games and creative exploration, you will develop your inner musician! Students will
need to bring their own guitars to class each week.

Scratch That! - Intro to Computer Programming (3-4) (5-6)
Tired of your kids zoning out on Minecraft or other computer games? Why not have them learn valuable skills
while being creative and having fun? Scratch is a programming language designed by the MIT Media Lab for kids
to create interactive art, games, stories, and tools. Using an easy-to-use interface, kids drag and drop pieces of
code into their projects, making animated characters move, talk, sing… or whatever! Programs can even respond
to sound or movement. Kids can share their creations online with fellow scratchers, who can modify the code and
make their own “remixes”. Kids will use “Raspberry Pi”, a low-cost credit card sized computer that can be
plugged into a TV.

Payment Requirement
Please attach a cheque for the full payment, dated May 10th, 2013, with this form. We are unable to reserve
spaces or hold spots for registrations submitted without payments attached. Please remember to put your child’s
name on the cheque.
Refunds
Refunds will be granted, if requested in writing no later than 2 business days after the 1st class. There will be an
administrative fee of 20% charged per course.
Behavior problems
Behavior problems in a class or during supervision will result in suspension from all activities.
Pick- ups
Children must be picked up promptly after their activity ends by a parent or guardian. If registered in EDP
childcare services, children must be picked up before 6:15PM. Late pick up fee is $5 for each 15 minutes
thereafter.
