MUDDY BROOK PTA BUILDING COMMUNITY, ENRICHING EDUCATION PTA After School Program Dates: October 9th through November 15th (6 weeks) Times: Afternoons 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm (children dismissed directly to program – please provide a snack from home) Mornings 8:00 am – 8:45 am Cost: $35 per student with a limited number of scholarships available to families in need of assistance. Students will take walks and hikes around the school district's campus. Routes will include cross country trails and the high school track. Indoor activity will be offered during inclement weather. Hip Hop: Tuesday afternoon, Grades 3-4 Tuan Nguyen, Gym This class is designed to get kids moving and active through hip hop dancing with today’s music. The children will learn spacial awareness and body movement in a fun and engaging way so that they don’t realize its exercise. Acting Around The World: Tuesday afternoon, Grades K-2 Rebecca Honig, Room 206 Each week we'll visit a different country. During each "visit" we'll read a folk tale, do a craft and put on a play. We'll play acting games, learn how to create characters and discover tales and traditions from across the globe. Yoga for Kids: Wednesday morning, Grades 1-4 Connie Wilson, Science Room Yoga increases focus, creativity, concentration and communication. In this class, the children will be guided through a series of age appropriate yoga postures, creative movement exercises and breathing techniques. Reading with Eric Carle: Wednesday afternoon, Grades K – 2 Heather Massa, Spanish Room Children explore the literature of Eric Carle. K-2 students will enjoy listening and reading to his artfully crafted stories and participate in a variety of related activities and projects. A second session may follow based on enrollment. Chess: Wednesday afternoon, K-4 (K -with experience) Gene Kalish, Science Room Whether you are a beginner or advanced player, you are welcome to come and join the fun! If you own a chess set, please bring it with you. Please make note on the registration form if you are a beginner. Each week we will explore a different component of circus skills such as balance, tumbling, juggling etc. We will also learn basic juggling/manipulation with scarves, plates, rings, and beanbags. Comedy Improv: Wednesday afternoon, Grades 2 – 4 Kristine Waterman, Music Room Students will play improv games, write short scenes, and do basic acting exercises to learn about working together on stage. It’s all about cooperation and sharing the spotlight. Creative Movement: Thursday morning, K & 1st grade: Kristine Waterman, Gym The joy of movement is inspired in a nurturing environment. A fun filled class of creative movement and music. Children will engage in rhythm exercises, movement, sequences, and interaction with a variety of music. Yoga for Kids: Thursday morning, Grades 1-4 Jill Flemming, Science Room Each class will begin with a few minutes of centering breath and quieting of the mind, followed by a series of yoga postures using imagery. We will close with a guided meditation designed to prepare the students for the day ahead. Taekwondo: Thursday afternoon, Grades K – 4 Master Brown, Gym The students will have an introduction to the art of Taekwondo, with an emphasis on focus and confidence building, in 6 fun filled sessions of exercise and learning taekwondo moves. Beginners will be able to use these classes toward getting their yellow belt. If you were enrolled in the spring program and want to participate, please indicate this program as your second choice to allow others to participate. Writers Workshop : Thursday afternoon, Grades 2-4 Joshua Briggs, Room 206 From short stories and poems to plays and movies we'll try out many different types of writing.
