Care of the Older Person
Domain 1 Professional/Ethical Practice
1.1
Participate under supervision in enabling the older person to maintain
independence.
1.2
Participate under supervision in the protection of self-esteem of the older person.
1.3
Recognise the importance of the concepts of advocacy and empowerment in
protecting the rights of the older person.
1.4
Recognise the ethical issues associated with the care of the older person, such as
consent, use of restraint and decision making processes.

Community Nursing
Domain 1 Professional/Ethical Practice
1.1
Demonstrate an awareness of the roles and responsibilities of Public Health
Nurse/Community Based Nurses (e.g. PHN, RGN, Practice Nurse)
Domain 2 Holistic Approaches to Care
2.1 Identify the different client groups that receive a nursing service from the Public
Health Nurse/ Community Based Nurses.
2.2
Identify the effects of economic/social circumstances on health.
2.3
Discuss how the Public Health Nurse/ Community Based Nurse receives
information from a hospital about newly discharged patients and outline the
importance of discharge planning.

3.1 Show an appreciation of the relationship between the Public Health Nurse/
Community Based Nurse and Individual/Family/Group and differentiate between
this relationship and the relationship between nurse and client in a hospital setting.
