Teeth that heal themselves… Durable biocompatible restorations utilizing Glass Carbomer® Tech enamel Hexagonal FAP crystal formation (12 months in GCP Seal) January 2014 Glass Carbomer® What is it exactly? Apatite & liquid silica enforced nano-glass • Glass Carbomer® is not to be confused with Glass Ionomer • Glass Carbomer® is a nano base Fluoride Aluminium-Silicate Glass with mineral additions giving it unique characteristics • Glass Carbomer ® has a liquid silica supplement for high flexural and compressive strength and low solubility • Glass Carbomer ® contains fluor/hydroxy apatite particles to start and aid the remineralisation proces • With Glass Carbomer® Tech, utilizing the natural processes of mineralization, we are able to create an entirely biological structure that has properties (such as hardness, durability, strength and acid resistance) equivalent to natural dentition. GCP Dental / For Internal Use Only 2 Glass Carbomer® Tech Biocompatibel material for permanent use Biofusion due to enhanced remineralisation Active caries repair Processable when moist No etching and bonding agent needed Command set with Thermocure GCP CarboLED Patented technology worldwide First developed 2004, 10 years of clinical use! GCP Dental / For Internal Use Only 3 Prepare cavity Cavity in tooth (Re)mineralization starts immediately due to ion exchange with the natural tooth, saliva and pulp Glass Carbomer®, dentin and enamel will form a durable new structure which is completely integrated with the natural tooth Bulk fill cavity with Glass Carbomer® Ion exchange will grow the Fluor Apatite and Hydroxy Apatite (FAP/HAP) crystals At the occlusal surface this mineralization will lead to an enamellike material (FAP) The fully mineralized tooth has comparable composition and properties to a natural tooth 4 Glass Carbomer® Tech Biofusion bonding due to ion-exchange GCP Dental / For Internal Use Only 5 GCP Fill Conventional Glass Ionomer (Fuji IX) GCP Glass Fill Flexural strength 35 Mpa 122.3 Mpa Compressive strength 250 Mpa 260 Mpa Enamel shear bond 6.7 Mpa 13.7 Mpa 0.13% 0.03% Acid solubility (pH=4) * Prof. D. Mineralisation is clearly visible. From 2007 to 2009 the patient received orthodontic treatment. A large cavity developed. In 2009 a class II restoration was made with GCP Glass Fill. In a second stage the top layer was replaced with composite (cosmetic reasons). (delayed sandwich) Clearly visible is the ongoing mineralization of the dentin. The dentin is mineralized into fluor-hydroxy apatite. The nerve reacted normal during treatment and is still vital. Restoration of beginning caries is not always necessary due to the remineralisation process (active caries repair). • differs from Glass Fill as it contains less nano-glass and more Fluor/Hydroxy Apatite • is fast (command set) and water tolerant for easy use with young children.
