Karl Ludwig Nessler
Life:
In 1872 Karl Ludwig Nessler was born
in Todtnau. He began his work in a
hair salon in 1892. In 1896 he first
tried a permanent wave („perm“) on
his colleague. He married Katharina
Laible in 1901 and later he had to
move to London because of the war.

In 1904 he had his own hair
salon. The first
demonstration of the „perm“
was on 8th October 1906.

He wanted to bring a „skin
rejuvenation machine“ on
the market in 1939. But this
was not possible because of
the war.

In 1949 he was honoured by an
American woman organization
for his outstanding invention:
the perm. Karl Ludwig Nessler
died on 21 January in 1951 in
New York.

