But they fail to provide good quality service. • Many deseases are identified too late due to bad communications • Basic things such as hygene, safe water & knowledge how to treat basic illness is lacking. • Only 50% of the people have access to safe water. Maternal health - 33 out of 1000 children die within 28 days or birth - 3 out of 1000 mothers die in childbirth. - It is common that the child suffers trauma during childbirth resulting in permanent brain damange. - 80 % of deliveries are done at home. Cause of maternal death - 46% Postpartum haemorrhage (Excessive bleeding) - 16% obstructed labor - 14% pre/eclapsia (due to high blood pressure) - 12% sepsis (infection due to unhygienic conditions) - 5% abortion - 5% antepartum haemorrhage (bleeding after the 24 week of pregnancy) Cause of children dying in childbirth - Asphyxia (most common) occurs when an infant’s airway is constricted for a time often caused by trauma during labor - Sepsis (infection due to unhygienic conditions) - Low birth weight - Premature birth - Hypothermia (body temperature drops too low) Childrens health - 6% of the children die before reaching 5 years of age - Most common cause of death: Pneumonia and diarrhoea - 51% of the children suffer from malnutrition. - The child is often brought to the hospital when the disease is already in an advanced stage. Common diseases in children - Most common cause of death: Pneumonia - 26 % of deaths caused by diarrhea - Worm infestations - Tetanus - Japanese encephalitis - 51 % stunted growth (malnutrition), 21% severly affected - Accidents (cuts, fractures, burns etc) Womens health - Low status of women in the society results in bad health - Uterine prolapse common in young women. 200.000 in need of immediete sugrical treatment - Cervical cancer Lack of good diagnosis and affordable test. The cancer is often identified only in a late stage. Womens health - Breast Cancer Lack of early diagnosis. Breast cancer is usually recoginzed only in the 3rd of 4th stage. - A study showed that out of 8434 women with breast cancer only 264 were diagnosed before the study. - Less than 1 % go for mamography - 50.000 women sufferts from breast cancer
