Maternal health

28 days or birth
- 3 out of 1000 mothers die in
childbirth.
- It is common that the child suffers
trauma during childbirth resulting
in permanent brain damange.
- 80 % of deliveries are done at
home.
Cause of maternal death
- 46% Postpartum haemorrhage (Excessive bleeding)
- 16% obstructed labor
- 14% pre/eclapsia (due to high blood pressure)
- 12% sepsis (infection due to unhygienic conditions)
- 5% abortion
- 5% antepartum haemorrhage (bleeding after the 24 week
of pregnancy)
Cause of children dying in childbirth
- Asphyxia (most common) occurs when an infant’s airway is
constricted for a time often caused by trauma during labor
- Sepsis (infection due to unhygienic conditions)
- Low birth weight
- Premature birth
- Hypothermia (body temperature drops too low)
Childrens health
- 6% of the children die before
reaching 5 years of age
- Most common cause of death:
Pneumonia and diarrhoea
- 51% of the children suffer from
malnutrition.
- The child is often brought to the
hospital when the disease is
already in an advanced stage.

only 264 were diagnosed before the study.
