This disorder affects several regions of the brain. It can affect your balance and movement, and also blood pressure and heart activity. In a lifetime 1 in every 200 people are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. By: Marisa Thompson Information: • Alternative Names- PD or Primary Parkinsonism • Who is most likely to get this disorder?-Men and Women usually 50 or 60 ages and older are most likely to get this disorder. • Symptoms- Physical symptoms include: shaking (tremor), stiffness of the limbs and trunk (rigidity) and imbalance and slowness in movement. You cant tell if someone has Parkinson’s just by looking at them because sometimes the symptoms of PD will get confused with normal signs of aging. • How common is this disorder?- Around half a million people United States have Parkinson’s. Information: • Is this disorder deadly?- PD is not fatal. – Will it shorten lifespan?- No. • Can you be tested for the disorder?- Yes. – If so how and when?- You should arrange a consultation with a neurologist who specializes in diagnosis and symptomatic treatment of tremor-causing disorders, when someone is experiencing the symptoms of PD. • Is there treatment?- Yes.
