Dr.Zaki’s Journey

On 17th of July, 1967, Dr. Zakiuddin Ahmed was born in an educated and
influential family. Despite coming from a family of Engineers, he had a
strong inclination towards medicine .Since his childhood he was cut-out
to seek further education from US, where a wonderful career would await
him, but fate had some other plans for him and Pakistan.
During his medical education, Dr. Zaki experienced some life changing
events after which he began to focus on his roles from a different
perspective and had a very clear vision of what he wanted to do :
“to develop the healthcare sector in Pakistan so that quality healthcare
services could be provided to all Pakistanis where and when they
needed it”
Dr.Zaki’s Journey

His first effort and contribution towards his vision, after graduating as a
Doctor, was to establish the Star Consultants Clinic, the first of its kind
medical center with all day care health services under one roof. The
experience of setting up was challenging and equally rewarding. Dr Zaki
realized that he possesses the entrepreneurial and managerial skills and
envisioned himself to play a key role in the development of health sector
of Pakistan.
Later Dr. Zaki introduced the first Family Health Membership program in
Pakistan in the form of “City Health Card”.
The idea of providing health membership for the entire family proved to
be an instant success and was followed by a series of similar innovative
projects
Dr.Zaki’s Journey

One of the highlights of Dr. Zaki’s career is the pioneering role he has
played in introducing and promoting Telemedicine in Pakistan.

He introduced innovative, quality & efficient Health ICT solutions that
have enabled the healthcare sector to meet the demands of Pakistani
patients

Following his dream to provide best possible health care to the patients in
Pakistan, Dr.Zaki established Smart Healthcare, a company which
provided international treatment options especially for those diseases
which were not being treated locally.
Dr.Zaki’s Journey

His insatiable appetite to contribute to setting the benchmark for the
industry led to the creation of “Health Asia” in 2004. Through Health Asia
Platform, he gathered and organized all stake holders in healthcare to
collaborate on academic and business levels and develop the healthcare
ecosystem to another level.

From Health Asia platform many conferences and events were initiated
for the first time in Pakistan.

During this time he had already established Pakistan’s first eHealth
company and Pakistan’s first Videoconferencing company

He then contributed in the space of Medical Ethics by developing the
guidelines for the industry as well as Physicians

Dr. Zaki conceived the ideas of, established, & successfully managed
innovative businesses & companies in the health services and IT sector in
Pakistan

As a Consultant, he has helped the Government, NGOs, Telcos, and other
organizations both locally as well as globally, in eHealth / mHealth space,
developing strategy and executing projects.

As a speaker, Dr.Zaki has represented Pakistan at many international
health and eHealth / mHealth conferences and am also on the board of
advisors of a few global events
