Radiation Therapy
•
One author wrote, in a book on spiritual remedies for ailments of the soul, that
to pray before the Blessed Sacrament is to undergo “radiation therapy.”I found
that rather interesting, since I actually did undergo the conventional (and
ultimately less beneficial) form of radiation therapy about a dozen years ago.It
occurred to me that there are some similarities and differences in the two kinds
of radiation therapy.
The Blessed Sacrament, the sacramental Presence of Christ Himself, indeed
radiates the Uncreated Energy of his divinity, which can be received by all
who come to Him in faith and love. You don’t have to get sick to benefit from
it, but guess what, you already are! We all have the sickness of sin or
inclination to sin of one sort or another, so we are all patients of the Divine
Physician. The doses of radiation you receive at the medical clinic are
measured in “rads,” but there’s no measure to the grace of God shining
through the Holy Eucharist. If there is, it can only be the measure of love,
which has no limits.

Father John A. Hardon, S.J. (1914-2000), said:
• “This Presence is the fountain of divine blessings which Christ
pours out to the whole world just because He, the Son of God in
human form, is on earth in the Blessed Sacrament.”
SPIRITUAL RADIATION!

• I doused my two youngest sons tonight-with
spiritual radiation.
They needed cleaning up and calming down, so
off went the TV and the video game and off to the
Adoration Chapel we flew.

• In a word, we have been given the task of building church
communities that are more and more like families, able to
reflect the beauty of the Trinity and to evangelize not only
by word, but I would say by “radiation”, in the strength of
living love. ”
Science and Healing

• In Candy Gunther Brown’s view, science cannot prove
prayer’s healing power, but what scientists can and should
do is study prayer’s measurable effects on health. If prayer
produces benefits, even indirectly (and findings suggest
that it does), then more careful attention to prayer practices
could impact global health, particularly in places without
access to conventional medicine.
Conclusions
• It is true that the biographies and autobiographies of many
saints and mystics in the history of the Church are filled
with examples directly and indirectly about Eucharistic
radiances.
• Yet, there is so little material on scientific literature review
on Eucharistic radiances or Eucharistic radiation therapy. It
is undeniably our weakness.
• However, at the same time, it is also our very strength and
blessing in the sense that we may be called to open wide
the door for others on this rarely researched theme.
Conclusions
• This history-making conference is too important to
be overlooked or over-rushed to hold.
• So we have two options: (1) we help those who
cannot come this time to be better informed by
reading Rev. Kosicki’s book “God’s Radiation
Therapy”, and to have a more informed committee
meeting in the near future;
(2) to plan a two-part conference, first the
religious parts (doctrinal, spiritual, mystical, etc.),
second, the scientific parts (scientific investigation,
psychology, sociology).
