Emergency Health Powers Act
The New Jersey Emergency Health Powers Act (NJEHPA)
provides the Governor of New Jersey and the State Commissioner
of Health with expanded powers to respond to public health
emergencies that include planning and executing public health
emergency plans, coordinating public health response between
State and local authorities, collaborating with the federal authorities
and agencies/representatives of other states, and organizing and
dispensing public information regarding health emergencies. This
law ensures a coordinated response for saving lives and minimizing
the dangers and risks that are associated with a public health
emergency. In accordance to the NJEHPA, the NJMRC/ESARVHP Volunteer Registry was created to support medical and public
health surge capacity for staffing and providing health care services
when required or needed during an emergency.
