74th USA Congressional Record (1936)
“Laboratory tests prove that the fruits, the
vegetables, the grains, the eggs and even the milk
and the meats of today are not what they were a
few generations ago . . . . It is bad news to learn
from our leading authorities that 99% of the
American people are deficient in these minerals,
and that a marked deficiency in any one of the
more important minerals actually results in
disease. Any upset of the balance, any
considerable lack of one or another element,
however microscopic the body requirement may
be, and we sicken, suffer, and shorten our lives.”
FACT: The United States
Department of Agriculture
states that:
•
•
•
•
9 out of 10 Americans are deficient in potassium.
8 out of 10 are deficient in vitamin E.
7 out of 10 are deficient in calcium.
50% of Americans are deficient in vitamin A, vitamin C, and
magnesium
FACT: According to the
Center for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC):
• More than half of the general population is vitamin D deficient
regardless of age.
• About 70% of elderly Americans are vitamin D deficient.
• 90% of Americans of color are vitamin D deficient.
• These statistics indicate that the need for vitamin D
supplementation is immense.
FACT: Our ability to become micronutrient
sufficient through eating the foods grown in our
planet’s soil is improbable because:
In 2003, News Canada reported that fruit and vegetables contain far
fewer nutrients than they did 50 years ago. Potatoes, for example, had
lost 100% of vitamin A content, 57% of vitamin C and iron, and 28% of
calcium. The report examined data from the US Department of
Agriculture involving vegetable quality. Over the entire 20th century
the average mineral content in cabbage, lettuce, spinach and
tomatoes, declined from 400 mg to less than 50 mg.
Sick, mineral depleted soil grows mineral depleted foods. The
animals that we eat are being fed these micronutrient depleted
vegetables and wheat. This means that the meat you buy is also far
lower in health producing micronutrients than ever before. The
bottom line is: “Sick soils mean sick plants, sick animals, and sick
people.”
PROTEIN DEFICIENCY
• If one of the nonessential proteins is less than needed for an
individual the utilization of other amino acids will be hindered
and thus protein synthesis will be less than what it usually is,
even in the presence of adequate total nitrogen intake.[2]
• Protein deficiency has been shown to affect all of the body's
organs and many of its systems, including the brain and brain
function of infants and young children; the immune system,
thus elevating risk of infection; gut mucosal function and
permeability, which affects absorption and vulnerability to
systemic disease; and kidney function.[2]
RDA vs. Optimal
According to four-time New York Times
bestselling author Dr. Mark Hyman, “a
whopping 92 percent of us are deficient in
one or more nutrients at the Recommended
Daily Allowance (RDA) level…The RDA
standards do not necessarily outline the
amount needed for optimal health.”
Journal of the International Society of
Sports Nutrition by Dr. Jayson B. Calton
Research has shown micronutrient deficiency to be scientifically linked
to a higher risk of overweight/obesity and other dangerous and
debilitating diseases. With more than two-thirds of the U.S. population
overweight or obese, and research showing that one-third are on a
diet at any given time, a need existed to determine whether current
popular diet plans could protect followers from micronutrient
deficiency by providing the minimum levels of 27 micronutrients, as
determined by the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations (FDA)
Reference Daily Intake (RDI) guidelines.
Suggested daily menus from four popular diet plans (Atkins for Life
diet, The South Beach Diet, the DASH diet, the Best Life diet) were
evaluated. Calorie and micronutrient content of each ingredient, in
each meal, were determined by using food composition data from the
U.S. Department of Agriculture Nutrient Database for Standard
Reference.
Results:
• Analysis determined that each of the four popular diet plans failed
to provide minimum RDI sufficiency for all 27 micronutrients
analyzed. The four diet plans, on average, were found to be RDI
sufficient in 11 of the analyzed 27 micronutrients.
• Further analysis of the four diets found that an average calorie
intake of 27,575 would be required to achieve sufficiency in all 27
micronutrients. Six micronutrients (vitamin B7, vitamin D, vitamin E,
chromium, iodine and molybdenum) were identified as consistently
low or nonexistent in all four diet plans. These six micronutrients
were removed from the sufficiency requirement and additional
analysis of the four diets was conducted. It was determined that an
average calorie content of 3,475 would be required to reach 100%
sufficiency in the remaining 21 micronutrients.
Sufficiency of 4 Popular Diets
CALORIE REQUIREMENTS
FACT: All of the above statistics point to the fact that a large
majority of our population is micronutrient deficient and
in need of proper supplementation.
• While we believe that an individual’s primary source of
micronutrients should be from whole, natural, fresh foods, it
is also our belief that reaching the recommended
daily intake of all of the essential
micronutrients is difficult, if not impossible
through foods alone. In fact, our research shows that
even when following today’s most popular diet programs,
designed by physicians and nutritionists, millions of people
around the world are left deficient of their essential vitamins
and minerals. – Calton Institute of Lifestyle Medicine
DNA damage from micronutrient deficiencies is
likely to be a major cause of cancer
• http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0027510701000707
Abstract
• A deficiency of any of the micronutrients: folic acid, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6,
niacin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, iron, or zinc, mimics radiation in damaging DNA by
causing single- and double-strand breaks, oxidative lesions, or both. For
example, the percentage of the US population that has a low intake (<50% of
the RDA) for each of these eight micronutrients ranges from 2 to >20%. A level
of folate deficiency causing chromosome breaks was present in approximately
10% of the US population, and in a much higher percentage of the poor. Folate
deficiency causes extensive incorporation of uracil into human DNA (4
million/cell), leading to chromosomal breaks. This mechanism is the likely cause
of the increased colon cancer risk associated with low folate intake. Some
evidence, and mechanistic considerations, suggest that Vitamin B12 (14% US
elderly) and B6 (10% of US) deficiencies also cause high uracil and chromosome
breaks. . . . Common micronutrient deficiencies are likely to damage DNA by
the same mechanism as radiation and many chemicals, appear to be orders of
magnitude more important, and should be compared for perspective.
Remedying micronutrient deficiencies should lead to a major improvement in
health and an increase in longevity at low cost.

• Vitamin and mineral fortification and supplementation policies need
to be promoted as the epidemiologic, nutritional, and sociological
scientific basis of human nutrition expands, specifically addressing
widespread deficiencies of micronutrients essential for individual
and population health. Use of other strategies such as preventive
supplementation and foods suitable for fortification should be
mandated under governmental responsibility for safe and healthful
food products. These should be regulated and sometimes
subsidized to prevent micronutrient deficiencies for many groups
at special risk for such deficiencies and their associated negative
health and societal effects.
The American Medical
Association (AMA):
recently reversed their longstanding stance
against multivitamins due to overwhelming
research that there was a large percentage
of the population deficient in
micronutrients. “The Journal of the
American Medical Association today is
advising all adults to take at least one
multivitamin pill each day.”
Harvard School of Public
Health:
recommends everyone to
“take a multivitamin daily as
an inexpensive nutrition
insurance policy.”
Dr. Mehmet Oz:
reports that “A study of 3 million people
revealed that less than 1% of the
participants got enough essential vitamins
from diet alone. That’s why you must take a
multivitamin; it also helps prevent heart
disease, breast cancer and colon cancer.”
2006 NIH State Of The Science Conference Statement on
Multivitamin/Mineral Supplements and Chronic Disease
Preventions
“Finally, the present evidence is insufficient
to recommend either for or against the use
of MVMs by the American public to prevent
chronic disease. The resolution of this
important issue will require advances in
research and improved communication and
collaboration among scientists, health care
providers, patients, the pharmaceutical and
supplement industries, and the public.”
Dr. Dan Engle MD, director of medicine at the
Rejuvenation and Performance Institute
• “There are varying studies on the
absorption rates of vitamins and minerals,
with many showing that the compressed
pill form of vitamins have very poor
absorption rates. Add this poor absorption
rate to the use of synthetic ingredients,
toxic binders, and excipients in most of the
tableted supplements and what results is
essentially expensive urine.
ABSORPTION
• Let’s briefly take a closer look at absorption. The avenues of absorption
of oral supplementation are via the mucous membranes of the digestive
system that start in the mouth and travel all the way to the
colon. Notably, digestion and absorption all start in the mouth. This is
why swishing vitamins and minerals (like a powdered form in water or a
smoothie) in your mouth for 15-20 seconds before swallowing can
significantly increase the absorption rate. This improvement in
absorption is further made easy and available through the use of
powder and liquid base supplements (versus compressed tablets),
because there is more surface area available for the nutrients to access
and gain entry into the body from start to finish, and less reliance on the
body to breakdown a pill.
• From there, absorption is throughout the GI system, and when the body
receives that which is closest to the natural form it was designed to
process, it takes it in much more readily. This is maximized when
nutrients are derived from nutrient-rich food. When the absorption
rates soar, the cells uptake is increased and utilization improves
substantially.”
Michael Colgan, PhD, CCN
• Biochemist, Nutritionist, Olympic Trainer:
"Every day, your body has to receive 60 essential
nutrients, the building blocks of healthy cells.
These are the nutrients that the body CANNOT
make but must be obtained from you diet and
supplements. If you do not receive this nutrients
daily, your health and your mind will decline
rapidly to premature aging."
Michael Colgan, PhD, CCN
“There are many overweight doctors for example, but no
overweight good doctors. If they cannot control this eminently
controllable disease risk in their own physiology, they do not
know enough to look after your health. If your dentist had bad
teeth, would you want them to look after yours? If your
contractor’s own house is tumbledown, would you let them
build yours? Accept only those who walk their talk.
There are many people who pontificate on nutrition, exercise,
and aging science, as if these were simple matters,. On the
contrary, your body is the most complex and difficult matter in
the universe that we know,…For your health, only the best of
science has any chance of success.”
MY OWN PRIMARY RESEARCH
• USING THE SAME METHODS AS THE STUDY IN THE INTERNATIONAL
SOCIETY OF SPORTS NUTRITION, I HAVE STARTED DOING MY OWN
TESTS OF CURRENLTY AVAILABLE NUTRIONAL SUPPLEMENT
SYSTEMS.
• SO FAR, THE BEST NUTRITIONAL SYSTEM I HAVE FOUND PROVIDES
THE US RDA OF 29 OF 39 (74%), ESSENTIAL NUTRIENTS; IS
DELIVERED IN MULTIPLE FORMS (POWDERS, LIQUIDS, CAPSULES,
SNACKS, BARS, AND PROPRIETARY FOOD PRODUCTS) FOR OPTIMAL
ABSORPTION, IS ORGNAIC AND GMO-FREE.
• AFTER 30 DAYS OF USING THIS NUTRITIONAL SYSTEM, 58% OF MY
MICRONUTRIENTS IMPROVED, INCLUDING ALL 7 OF MY
ANTIOXIDANTS, 4 OF MY 5 NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES, AND MY
IMMUNE SYSTEM FUNCTIONING IMPROVED BY 12%.
BEST FOOD, BEST SUPPLEMENTS
• There is no debate anymore: if you want to get the best
quality foods, you have to get locally grown organic produce
and grass fed, hormone and antibody-free meAts. YOU CANT
GET THESE FROM WALMART AND MAJOR STORES –You have
to go to local farmers markets and specialty stores.
• Likewise, to get the best nutritional supplements, you don’t go
to Walmart and Walgreens, you got to specialty companies.
• DON’T BE FOOLED, THE BEST SUPPLEMENTS AREN’T SOLD IN
STORES! ASK THE NUTRITIONISTS AND ACCUPUNCTURISTS
WHERE THEY GET THEIR SUPPLEMENTS THAT THEY
RECOMMEND TO THEIR PATIENTS AND THE DON’T SEND YOU
TO THE STORE!
• Since truck drivers don’t have access to the best foods, we
have to get them access to the best supplements.
YOU CAN’T TRUST THE
DOCTORS!
• Since doctors are recommending things without any scientific
evidence – like take multivitamins even though the 2006 Consensus
found no evidence to do so, can you really trust your doctor? Do you
know last year 17 companies paid $1.4 billion to hundreds of
thousands of doctors, including $93 million in Missouri, so that they
would proscribe their drugs and medications.
• The only thing you can trust is your own medical and physiological
condition and the effects of the nutrition you consume.
• YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR OWN NUTRITONAL DEFICIENCY TEST AND
THEN USE A SUPPLEMENT AND THEN TAKE THE SAME TEST AGAIN
TO SEE IF THE SUPPLEMENT DOES WHAT IT CLAIMS.
