However, in your daily life as a Christian, it helps to remember what takes place when we are baptized. When we are baptized, here is what happened to us: 4/10/2015 17 We are saved. (Mark 16:16; 1 Peter 3:21) Our sins are forgiven. (Acts 2:38) We were baptized into Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:26,27; 1 Corinthians 12:13) We were baptized into Jesus death. (Romans 6:3-4) Our sins are washed away. (Acts 22:16) 4/10/2015 18 It is important to note that baptism ALONE does not save us. To say that baptism alone saved us would be like saying that faith alone saved us or that repentance alone saved us. Neither would be a scriptural claim. Our obedience to Jesus’ command to be baptized works with our belief, our repentant change and the confession of our faith to save us. 4/10/2015 19 Once One Becomes A Christian • A “disciple” Acts 11:26; John 8:31-32 • A “member” of the Lord’s body Acts 2:41, 47; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 • A life-long commitment to the Lord Colossians 1:21-23; 2:6 • Has the hope of heaven!1 Peter 1:3-4 Agrippa was “almost” persuaded to become a Christian WHAT ABOUT YOU? 4/10/2015 20 THE WAY OF SALVATION - Summary Gods terms. 1) Salvation is found in the Gospel. The purpose of our confession: To show that we were not (and are not) ashamed of Jesus Christ and our belief in Him. 4/10/2015 24 THE WAY OF SALVATION A brief summary of the way of salvation. The purpose of our baptism: Baptism is the final act of our obedience so that we might be saved. It was that which put us into the body of Christ, the church. It results in the forgiveness of our sins. It was that from which we rise to walk in a newness of life, serving only the Lord. 4/10/2015 25 We need to strive to make certain that we are following up on the purpose of our salvation. Remember, we are to walk in a newness of life, serving only the Lord. We are to turn away from sin on a daily basis, striving with God's help to say no to any and all forms of temptations. We need to continue to build our faith in Jesus Christ and continue to proclaim that faith so that others might believe. 4/10/2015 26 Homework. 1.
