Antagonist- General Zaroff. He is the antagonist because he tries to kill Rainsford. It enhances the story because it gives more excitement and gives a person for the protagonist to interact with.
Analogy-Rainsford compares moist velvet to darkness(18) It enhances the story because it gives a comparison between to unlike things and helps you imagine.
Protagonist-Rainsford. He is the protagonist because he pushes the story along. It enhances the story because he gives interaction between the antagonist.
Setting-The Caribbean Sea and a remote island is where the story takes place. It enhances the story by making the game dangerous and eventful.



Metaphor- it is a metaphor because it compares two unlike things. It enhances the story because it compares two things that aren’t alike and finds a way that they are similar. Quote “ …On three sides of it’s cliff dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows.” (20)
Simile- It is a simile because it compares two things using like or as. It enhances the story because it compares two unlike things. Quote “
Sea was as flat as a plate- glass window.” (18)




Static- Harrison Bergeron. He is static because he doesn’t change at any time throughout the story. It enhances the story because the static character contrasts the dynamic character.
Direct Characterization- Harrison Bergeron. He is direct characterization because he is directly told what he is and acts like. It enhances the story because it gives you a clear view on who the character is. Quote-” Harrison Bergeron, age fourteen, has just escaped from jail where he was held on the suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government. He is a genius and an athlete, is under handicap and should be regarded as extremely dangerous.” (103)
Stereotype-In the story extraordinary people are stereotyped as handicapped; it is the everyone should to be the same stereotype. It enhances the story because it gives opinions to the character.




External Conflict- Thank You Ma’am. The external conflict is between the boy and the old lady when the boy tries to steal the ladies purse. It enhances the story because it gives interaction between people in the story.
Situational Irony- Thanks You Ma’am. The situational irony is between the women and boy when the lady is nice to the boy, even after he tries to steal her purse. It enhances the story because it gives twists in the story.
Third Person Omniscient- In the story, it is omniscient because you know what the boy and women are both thinking. It enhances the story because it tells the reader what the characters are thinking and how they feel about things.

The plot enhances the story because it informs the reader of what happens in the story.
A: Mrs. Luella Bates Washington
Jones and Roger are introduced.
B:Mrs.Jones is walking alone on the street.
C:Roger tries to steal Mrs. Jones’ purse.
D:Mrs.Jones brings Roger to her house and feeds him.
E:Roger is very grateful that Mrs.
Jones had compassion towards him.





Dynamic- Ulrich. He is dynamic because he changes from hating
Znaeym to wanting to be friends with him. It enhances the story because it gives unexpected twists in the story. Quote-”
Neighbor, if you will help me to bury the old quarrel, I-I will ask you to be my friend.”(192)
Flashback-This is when Ulrich thinks back to the family feud between his family and George Znaeym’s. This enhances the story because it gives more background to the story.
Suspense-When George and Ulrich are stuck under the tree they believe rescuers are coming to save them, but the rescuers are really wolves. It enhances the story because it causes the reader to continue reading
Theme-There are many themes from this story, but one is, don’t wait to make amends with enemies because before you know it, it will be too late. It enhances the story because it gives the reader something to think about.




Allusion- Free Masons. It is an illusion because refers to a group that is not a part of the story. It enhances it because it gives more depth to the story and adds more content.
Indirect Characterization- Montressor. He is characterized indirectly because he is a heartless person because of hat he does to Fortunato, but it is not actually told in the story outright.
It enhances the story because it lets your imagination come up with what you think the character truly is.
Dialect- Fortunato. The dialect is Fortunato and Montressor talking between each other. It enhances the story because it gives interaction between multiple characters. Quote- “’He is an ignoramus,’ interrupted my friend, as he stepped unsteadily forward while I followed immediately at his heels.”(216) It enhances the story because it gives interaction between the characters.



Tone-Edgar Allen Poe’s tone is mysterious and creepy. It enhances the story because it gives a feel to the story.
Unreliable Narrator-Montressor. He is an unreliable narrator because he is not always aware of what is happening in the story, like after he leaves Fortunato in the catacombs. It enhances the story because it can give twists in the story.





Hyperbole-When Montressor said he bore 1,000 injuries from
Fortunato. It enhances the story because it gives exaggeration to the story.
Verbal Irony- Montressor calls Fortunato his friend and says that he cares about his health even though he is his enemy and he doesn’t care about his health. It enhances the story because it gives emotion to what the characters are saying. Quote: “My friend no; I will not impose upon your good nature. I perceived you have an engagement. Luchesi-”(213)
Dramatic Irony-We as the audience know that Montressor is planning revenge on Fortunato but Fortunato doesn’t. It enhances the story because it has the reader knowing something the characters don’t
First Person Point of View-Montressor is telling the story. It enhances the story because it gives a different point of view to the story.




Round Character- The Sniper. He is a round character because there are many details and he is a main character. It enhances the story because it gives a character that the story can focus on.
Flat Character- The Sniper’s brother. He is a flat character because there is not much told about him and he is mainly a small side character. It enhances the story because it gives more characters for the main character to interact with.
Internal Conflict- The Sniper. The Sniper probably has internal conflict with himself once he discovers that he shot his brother. It enhances the story because it gives a look into what the character is feeling.




Climax- A Sound of Thunder. The climax of a Sound of Thunder is when Travis is preparing to shoot Eckels. It enhances the story because it is the most exciting part of the story and is the most entertaining to the reader.
Foreshadowing-When the safari leader is talking about stepping off that path and how it could affect the future it foreshadowed
Eckels going off that path. It enhances the story because it gives hints to what might happen next Quote: “ ‘Stay on the path.
Don’t go off. For any reason! If you fall off there is a penalty.
An don’t shoot any animal we don’t okay.’ ” (586)\
Imagery-In the story the T-Rex is described with imagery. It enhances the story because it gives description to what the story is describing. Quote: “It towered thirty feet above half of the trees, a great, evil god, folding it’s delicate watchmaker’s claws close to it’s oily reptilian chest.” (587)


Third Person Limited- Eckles is Third Person
Limited because you are told what he is doing, but you don’t know his thoughts. It enhances the story because it lets your imagination come up with what the character might be thinking.
