3X5 BLOCK LETTERING All letters can be drawn in a 3X5 grid apart from M and W which need a 5X5 grid. The grid system allows you to produce neat, accurate lettering which can be drawn either in 3rd Angle projection or oblique projection. Page Layout - 1cm Border 1cm Name Block 2cm Indent Construction lines – use a sharp H pencil and make the lines as light as you can. 6cm – 60mm 10cm – 100mm 2cm – 20mm 6cm – 60mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm Go over the construction lines to draw the shapes of the two letters D and T. Use even curves from corner to corner of the small square to make the letter D easier to read. Object lines – Use the same sharp H pencil but press harder to produce a dark line this will make the object stand out from the construction lines. Using sharp colouring pencils and pressing lightly, render the two letters any colour you would like. These are some examples of different letters of the alphabet to demonstrate how they fit into the 3X5 grids. As you can see from the examples it is possible to add curves to make the letters easier to read. The M and W are different as they need a 5X5 grid. The squares that make up the grid are still drawn the same size. 10cm – 100mm 10cm – 100mm 2cm – 20mm 2cm – 20mm Homework task - Your own initials (maximum 3) in 3X5 Block Lettering. 1) Page layout. 2) Your initials in 3X5 Block letters, remember to draw each block 2cm by 2cm.
