Innovative antibacterial furniture for patient safety
The award winning Isku Interior is the first company in the furniture sector to launch a
complete collection of antibacterial furniture based on copper and silver technology on
surfaces, fabrics, and coating. This new antibacterial product line is called Hygiene. The
antibacterial coating reduces significantly or even eliminates the risk of infections spreading
through surfaces, and is ideal for furniture solutions in hospitals, clinics, health centers, care
homes and residential care homes.
With the new solution Isku Health contributes to the safety of patients and healthcare
professionals in sensitive environments. The new HYGIENE range includes chairs, sofas,
couches, tables, office chairs and desks. In addition to the copper based surfaces, the
antibacterial effect is ensured with laminates, varnishes, paints and fabrics that have been
treated with antimicrobial agents.
Isku’s HYGIENE products are comfortable and safe to use, whereas healthcare
professionals appreciate the hygienic features. Bacteria dies on copper within hours and
by using it on surfaces one does not have to constantly disinfect surfaces.

An increasing need for antibacterial environments
There are 3 million hospital infections in Europe every year, resulting in 37,000 deaths,
16 million extra hospital days and €7 billion in extra health care costs. Counting in all other
illnesses caused by bacteria and viruses and their additional costs, we arrive at numbers
difficult to understand.

Antimicrobial copper has been tested in clinical
trials around the world. Studies show 80% less
contamination on copper surfaces than noncopper equivalents. Results from a US clinical
trial, funded by the Department of Defense,
further observed a 58% reduction in intensive
care unit patients’ risk of acquiring a healthcareassociated infection when just six key touch
surfaces in their rooms were replaced with
antimicrobial copper items.
As a proof of the antibacterial features of the
HYGIENE range, Isku has been awarded the
right to use Cu+ mark of Copper Development
Association. Antimicrobial Copper is the most
effective touch surface material in the fight
against pathogenic microbes, killing greater
than 99.9% of bacteria within two hours of
exposure. No other material comes close.
