Used to/didn’t use to + infinitive
• I used to work for this firm many years ago.
• To talk about past habits or repeated
actions/situations/states which have changed.
• In the present use: usually (you can’t use used
to for the present).
Used/use
• I used to live in Rome. (+)
• I didn’t use to live in Rome (-)
• Did you use to live in Rome? (?)
Be used to/get used to + gerund
• Be used to + gerund: to talk about a new
situation which is now familiar to you. (less
strange)
• Eg: I am used to living in Rome now.
• Get used to + gerund: to talk about a
situtation which is becoming familiar to you.
• Eg: I can’t get used to living in Rome.
Be used to/get used to + gerund
• You can’t use the infinitive after be/get used
to.
