Did you know
that one vote
could change
your life?
ONE VOTE MADE
A DIFFERENCE!
All to often, Citizens assume that
their one vote will not matter.
A search through history can
prove how wrong they are:
In 1645, one vote gave Oliver Cromwell
control of England.
In 1649, one vote caused Charles I
of England to be executed.
In 1776, one vote decided that
America would speak the English
Language instead of German.
In 1800, one vote kept
Aaron Burr from
becoming President,
and that same one vote
elected Thomas
Jefferson as President.
In 1845, Congress came within
one vote of abolishing West
Point Academy.
In 1845, one vote brought Texas
into the Union.
In 1850, one vote
admitted California to
the Union.
In 1859, one vote made Washington
a state in the Union.
In 1868, one vote saved
President Andrew Johnson
from being impeached.
In 1875, one vote gave
Rutherford B. Hayes the
Presidency of the United
States.
In 1923, one vote gave Adolph Hitler
leadership of the Nazi Party.
In 1941, one vote saved Selective
Services, just weeks before Pearl
Harbor was attacked.
Although most of these one vote
stories are considered to be just
that, a story! It does however
instill the importance that your
one vote can make a difference.
In our current governing bodies,
several senators and
representatives won their seats in
office by less than 100 votes, some
by as few as 10 votes.
