Our unique combination of technical and business expertise enables us to look beyond the purely legal perspective and find a timely and economically sound resolution. Focus on technical and industrial disputes Veritas per Scientiam focuses on avoiding and resolving technical and industrial disputes—typically those related to engineering—which involve property damage or business interruption. We combine a thorough engineering background with long-standing experience in business matters, including Corporate Finance. We handle disputes between companies and their suppliers, contractors and other business partners, or within the company itself, including disputes between business units, departments, shareholders and other stakeholders. Keeping a keen eye on business Legal disputes create financial and economic uncertainty for all parties involved. More often than not, they lead to long, drawn-out procedures and large legal fees, with a result that benefits neither party. Considerable time and economic value are wasted. Perhaps more importantly, future collaboration between parties is often severely jeopardized. Veritas per Scientiam helps companies to resolve disputes in a more effective manner. We always keep a keen eye on the business side of things and take into account all economic consequences. We provide companies with a solution that is timely, correct and economically sound. Our aim is to create true value during the business conflict resolution: ad veram aestimationem creandam. A proven track record * Over 20 years of experience in the assessment and settlement of industrial claims and investment arbitration. * Largest claim handled to date: €300 million. * Sectors:chemical and petrochemical industries, energy, oil and gas, engineering projects (EPC), construction and transportation. * International experience. Seminar "Mastering Uncertainty in Engineering" November 4, 2013 in Mol (B) 2013 to Present Page6 Members:Didier De Buyst, Jozef Van Dyck, Dirk Roosendans, Gert Van den Eynde Our first public initiative of the inter-university platform is the seminar “Mastering Uncertainty in Engineering” on November 4th, 2013 at SCK•CEN in Mol (Belgium) from 9 AM till 5 PM, with a Meet & Greet between academia and industry. This is a joint initiative of SCK.CEN, ie-net and Dappolonia, with support of Total and Febelfin. The key note speaker will be ir. K. De Boeck, CEO Dexia Holding, about uncertainty in the financial and banking industry. A registration form will be available after the summer holidays. Inter-university platform "Uncertainty in Engineering" 2012 to Present Members:Didier De Buyst, Jozef Van Dyck In an important industrial claim I encountered a practical engineering problem facing uncertainty. It became clear that (i) there is a lack of co-operation between Belgian universities, (ii) research landscape is fairly scattered, and (iii) no or at least little integration and consolidation in practical engineering application. Everyone seems to be working on his/her own island. This is the reason why I created an informal platform for exchange of experience, know-how and knowledge. A workshop was held on August 21st, 2012. A questionnaire was send in the fall of 2012 to all Belgian universities active in the field of uncertainty in engineering. From the response one can conclude that there is a clear desire to: 1) improve contacts between academia and industry; 2) foster cooperation/communication between academia. Within the received response, the propagation of "regular" uncertainty in "physical" models (analytical or numerical) in order to "optimize" design is most frequently researched (or takes most of the research effort). A more exact inventory of the techniques and tools that have been used or developed should be of interest. The remainder of the research (which is still a substantial part) is dispersed over many different topics. Even within the limited response the pooled research/knowledge base appears very broad. Teaming should allow to develop innovative solutions for many different practical problems. Further thought shall be given on practical steps one might take to achieve the two aforementioned objectives. The SCK.CEN will act as the permanent secretary of this initiative. Once a year we will host a seminar and provide the necessary support for the logistics, and if possible also some content. It is however up to the universities to make proposals for workshops or seminars. This is initiative is evidently open to all Belgian universities and other academic institutes involved in engineering sciences. His contributions to the Financial Committee are strategic and very useful. Didier is also very creative and knowledgeable... I consider hime as one of our best specialists !" — Gernay Catherine, Executive officer, SCK.CEN, managed Didier indirectly at Belgian Nuclear Research Center (SCK.CEN) "Didier was my professor at the PHL University College for the course "Introduction to Management" in my second Master in Architecture. He accomplished it to group some of the best teachers in this country to talk about the basics of business management. With his enthusiasm, he succeeded in getting our attention for different topics like Entrepreneurship, Corporate Finance, Strategy, Negotiation, etc. We will definitely benefit from the hands on approach of this course to have a successful career." — Stijn Gysen, Student, PHL University College, reported to Didier at PHL Dept. Architecture "Didier has created a pioneering management programme for architectural students in their masters programme at the PHL. He has brought together a group of top quality teachers in the most essential management disciplines which some economy faculties of other schools probably envy. In the entrepreneurship session we support he has chosen a clear focus to get the students exposed to the crucial elements of a business. This will help them understand their role in the economical processes they play a role in in the construction industry, be it as architect, advisor, project developer, materials manufacturer, facility owner, ... His skill is definitely in seeing the need for such education, selecting the top quality teachers and launching the programme succesfully. His students will benefit from this programmes throughout their carreers." — Matty Paquay, CEO, Paquay & Associates, was a consultant or contractor to Didier at PHL Dept. Architecture "I've worked together with Didier on a case and teaching sessions in Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School. Didier is a very dedicated and committed partner, with great insights in the business. From my experience, he has great strategic insights in the telco and it business." — Kurt Verweire, Associate Professor and Partner, Vlerick Leuven Ghent Management School, was with another company when working with Didier at Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School Page12 "Didier was a good Board Member who always supported the Company to improve its performance and value.
