A Little History
• John Atanasoff (born in Hamilton, NY) invented
the first digital computer (late ’30s)
• Thomas Watson, President, IBM, 1943:
“I think there is a world market for maybe
five computers.”
• In the mid-1950s, businesses began to see
computing technology as a means to increase
efficiency
