SPIRE Key Component 2: Process Key Action 2.3: Process monitoring, control and optimization Key Action 2.5: New energy and resources management concepts Call topic: SPIRE 6 – 2015: Energy and resource management systems for improved efficiency in the process industries Project title: „Adaptation of processing technologies to variability of physico-chemical properties and deteriorating quality of raw materials, providing the required quality of semi-products and products” (TEDERAM : TEchnologies for DEteriorating RAw Materials) WWW.SPIRE2030.EU 3 Project Idea Concept Project title: „Adaptation of processing technologies to variability of physicochemical properties and deteriorating quality of raw materials, providing the required quality of semi-products and products” (TEDERAM : TEchnologies for DEteriorating RAw Materials) Deterioration of quality of raw materials becomes (particularly in Europe) a growing challenge for process industries. The main reasons of the problem are: decreasing accessibility of natural raw materials of high quality and increasing variability and inconsistency of chemical and physical characteristics of natural and secondary feed materials. Having at disposal worse raw materials the industries still have to provide the products of acceptable quality. This requires development or adaptation of the processing technologies which would allow to overcome the harmful effects of raw materials quality deterioration. The problem concerns the whole cycle of products manufacturing and downstream processing - starting from feedstock preparation to final processing such as coating, bending or joining, which may need to be adjusted to actual physico-chemical properties of the processed material. WWW.SPIRE2030.EU 4 Idea Impact The new approach of the proposed project to the problem of deteriorating quality of raw materials consists in comprising several sectors of process industries (at least steel, chemical and minerals) in order to take advantages of foreseen synergic effects. The sources of the synegies are expected to be: - cross-sectorial control of materials flow and - dissemination of gained knowledge through the sectors. The foreseen effects of results application of the proposed project are: -increased use of alternative raw and secondary feed materials (i.e. of lower quality and/or inconsitent parameters) in comparison with current level, - lower dependence on imports of raw materials from outside Europe. They comply with the one of the main SPIRE ambitions, which is reduction in the use of non-renewable primary raw materials up to 20% till 2030.
