OPERATIONS GEORGE, BAIRD MORELAND (PTY) LTD, WAS REGISTERED IN 1986 AND TRADES AS GLASS FLAKE COATINGS INTRODUCTION The company produces high performance resins, and epoxy based lining systems that have been used extensively to generate huge savings by avoiding the capital cost of plant and steel work replacements. We will recommend the most cost effective system solution and personally apply these for on-site projects. The projects we undertake are guaranteed. The following is an indication of the areas of on-site work we do where major cost savings in plant equipment, steel structures, gantry’s etc. and down time will be of interest to you. VOCABULARY W.F.T.: Wet Film Thickness. PROFILE: Microscopic Look. G.F.C. R8: Glass Flake 8. G.F.C. EP: Glass Flake Epoxy Paint. G.F.C. EP. UV.: Glass Flake Epoxy Paint – UV Resistant. PROJECTS 1) Surface Ventilation Fans. 1) Tanks. 3) Concrete. 4) Headgear upgrades (Townlands mine) 5) Gantry Upgrades (Paardekraal mine) OVERVIEW The Lining of Impellers including the repair of leading edges, Guide Vains, Cone and Doors without welding. The internal lining and corrosion prevention of tanks against chemicals, water etc. External high performance corrosion prevention coating, plant and equipment. The corrosion prevention and lining/coating of fridge plants, steelwork, columns, ducktings, headgears, pumps (impellers and volutes) pipes, bends etc. Our high performance Epoxy Mortars and coatings are used to repair and protect eroded concrete expansion joints, exposed reinforced steel in concrete, acid damaged concrete etc. In addition to our own facilities and expertise we have the resources of our international suppliers, including that of a laboratory and internationally supported technical services. Our quality management system forms the foundation of all the projects we undertake and this system is based on internationally accepted quality standards. PRINCIPAL ADVANTAGES Outstanding chemical and temperature resistance improved resistance to permutation. Excellent resistance to: Undercutting, abrasion, erosion and impact. Profile Restoration – can be used as filler. Ability to follow contours. Flexible up to the deformation point of steel. Easy to repair. Can be used with cathodic protection. Machinable Long life, low cost. Rapid cure. SCOPE OF WORK (STEEL) Grit blast to S.A. 2.5. Blast profile of 50 – 75 microns. Refurbish lost surface areas. Apply Glass Flake in three (3) applications to the surface to the specified (WFT) wet film thickness. INSPECTION AND TESTING The dry film thickness of the completed coating should be measured with a magnetic “banana” Type Gauge or electronic instrument suitably calibrated. The lining should be examined for consistency of finish, lack or sags, runs, misses etc. Particularly at inaccessible areas of the work. The finished cured lining should be tested for holes using a D.C. spark detector. A coating test voltage of 4 000v/mm should be used. A Barber Coleman hardness impresser may determine the degree of cure of the lining. A bacon hardness figure of 30 to 40 is acceptable. We trust that this is in line with your requirements and should any further information be required, please do not hesitate to contact me.
