Background to the Thermal Technologies Centre?
The Thermal Technologies Centre is a Collaboration between CPI
and Tata Steel.
• To deliver a joint Project to create an open access demonstration
and technology facility on the Tata Steel TTC Site.
• Which makes available two demonstration facilities/-
• FULLY FLEXIBLE GASIFIER
• PYROLYSIS UNIT.
• Which complement and enhance existing CPI capabilities.
• And support the existing Tata Steel Technology Facilities on
Teesside.

What does the Thermal Technologies Centre do?
• Provides expertise and experience in Thermal Process Technology in
support of UK competitiveness.
• Owns and operates demonstration assets which are available an
Open Access Basis; current emphasis is Gasification and Pyrolysis.
• Supports the development of high temperature process skills in the
NE of England - both Tata Steel and CPI - and enables delivery of
these skills where required.
• Provides a site that can accommodate additional assets - where
these meet specific customer needs that augment the existing
capabilities or align with strategic direction.
• Generates sufficient income to ensure long term sustainability

Project Scope
Project covers construction of two demonstration scale assets.
Fully Flexible Gasifier.
Slow Pyrolysis Facility.
Plus supporting analytical laboratory.
These are owned by CPI and operated by Tata Steel RD&T.
Funding is 50% Public and 50% Tata Steel.
Access matches funding.
Project also covers the creation of the Thermal Technologies Centre
organisation as a new business unit with CPI. Combines CPI and Tata
people into one team.
