Ansaldo STS is not only a turn key system technologies provider, but also an Operator, extending the system approach through the O&M feedback taken into account since the beginning of Concept and Design phase Ansaldo STS – A System Provider Ansaldo STS has both the capabilities and the expertise to be a full System Provider and/or Integrator, and to provide complete solutions to its Customers, taking into account in-house products (Signalling, Supervision, etc.) as well as other suppliers’ system (Catenary, Track works, etc.) Other Services (Security, After-Sale, O&M, …) Supervision Systems (CTC, SCADA, …) ATP/ATC (ERTMS/ETCS, CBTC, …) Interlockings & Wayside (MicroLok, ACC, …) Components (relays, signals, …) Integration of Subsystems (from other Suppliers’ too) Ansaldo STS – Key Results (2010) Listed Milan Stock Exchange (STAR Sector) 2010 Revenues € 1,283 Million 2010 Orders € 1,985 Million 2010 Backlog € 4,551 Million 2010 EBIT € 137.1 Million 2010 NFP € 318.2 Million Employees 4,217 Ansaldo STS – Company Profile Ansaldo STS: more than 4,200 people around the world Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS Products and Systems What is ERTMS/ETCS? The European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) has two basic components: • ETCS, the European Train Control System, is an automatic train protection system (ATP) according to which a failsafe trainborne computer – <<Eurocab>> – compares the train actual speed with the permitted speed (sent from the Trackside subsystem) and it slows down automatically the train if the limits are violated • GSM-R, a radio system for providing voice and data communication between the track and the train, based on standard GSM using frequencies specifically reserved for rail application with certain specific and advanced functions Why ERTMS/ETCS? Past: reasons that led to the ERTMS/ETCS development ERTMS/ETCS allows the uninterrupted travel of passengers and goods through national boundaries ERTMS/ETCS is a Standard for Europe, therefore it opens the European market for railway products ERTMS/ETCS improves the safety of existing railways ERTMS/ETCS increases the capacity of existing railways Future: reasons why ERTMS/ETCS is becoming a Global de facto Standard ERTMS/ETCS is a flexible system able to adapt to any kind of Railway needs, within European boundaries and beyond ERTMS/ETCS is a system standard, which stimulates the competition among several suppliers Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS Systems and Products Ansaldo STS designs, develops and manufactures in-house the main ERTMS/ETCS System components which are applied in ERTMS Level 1 and/or Level 2 projects, namely: Eurobalise (Standard Size and Reduced Size) Lineside Electronic Unit (LEU) Radio Block Centre (RBC) OnBoard Unit (OBU) Specific Transmission Module (STM), for different legacy systems Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS System Architecture Generic ASTS ERTMS/ETCS Level 1 System Architecture Computer Based Interlocking Switchable Eurobalise Signal LEU Fixed Eurobalise Station LEU Switchable Eurobalise Plain Line to peripherals: signals, point machines, etc. ETCS Onboard Switchable Eurobalise Station Onboard Fixed Eurobalise Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS System Architecture Generic ASTS ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 System Architecture Computer Based Interlocking RBC RBC MMI GSM-R Fixed Eurobalise to peripherals: signals, point machines, etc. Plain Line Data GSM-R ETCS Onboard GSM-R Fixed Eurobalise Station Onboard Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 From Paper… …to Application Ansaldo STS ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 Case Study: Italian High Speed Lines UNISIG ERTMS/ETCS SRS “2.2.2 +” RFI HSL SRS “Vol. 1” Requirements Trace Train Spacing Subsystem SRS “Vol. 2” FFFIS RBC-RBC RBC MMI Spec RBC Low Level Functional Spec.
