Ordering IBM Storage “Solutions” can be a challenge
 IBM Storage “Solutions”
– Two brands (System Storage and Tivoli Storage)
– Two ordering systems (AAS and PPA)
– Two pricers (STG and SWG)
Choose the
AAS route for
your HW+SW
“solution”…
eConfig
ePricer
Choose the PPA
route for the
SW portion of
your
“solution”…

pricing
assistance for
the “‘solution”
AAS
PPA
…and miss a robust
process for managing
ongoing software
maintenance renewals

 What changed?
– eConfig updates to identify many Storage Software products and automatically entitle the
software maintenance in Passport Advantage Express
●
Since the entitlement is now in Passport Advantage, you will be asked to provide some customer
contact information during the order process (see next pages)
 What’s the benefit?
– Single “Solution” configuration, pricing, and ordering.
– Common anniversary date for software Subscription and Support renewals.
– Worldwide renewal process for software Subscription & Support (commonly referred to as
software maintenance)
 Do I need to start ordering differently?
– Not unless you want to. All previously available ordering approaches are still available.
– If you choose, you will transition to the AAS route for configuring, pricing, and ordering all
Storage Solutions. It provides the most robust support for getting the transaction done
correctly and quickly. In the background, the software maintenance entitlements for many of
the storage software products will be automatically created as PPA S&S records.
 What’s the catch?
– Clients who order IBM Software brands through Passport Advantage accumulate “points” that
can result in deeper entitled discounts. Some IBM Storage Software is available today to be
ordered directly in Passport Advantage. For these products, moving orders to AAS will result
in a decrease in accumulated PPA “points”.

 Here’s how PPA Subscription & Support renewal works from a
customer perspective
– You will receive a renewal quote 75 - 90 days in advance of your next IBM
Software Subscription and Support anniversary date.*
– To maintain active Subscription and Support, simply:
● Review your renewal quote immediately. Then, choose one of the following options to
renew:
– Contact an authorized IBM Business Partner for final pricing and
fulfillment
– Contact your IBM Renewal Rep.
– Sign in to Passport Advantage Online for Customers**
● It's that simple.
*Note: There is a WW PPA S&S Renewal sales team who works to drive closure on these quotes
**Note: Passport Advantage Online renewal and ordering is available in most, but not all, countries.
In some countries, you may also have the option to take advantage of Automatic or Continuous Renewal to
safeguard your IBM Software Subscription and Support (and Fixed Term Licenses) against an unintended
lapse in coverage.

But what if…?
 What if my customer already has some IBM Storage
Software with AAS Software Maintenance Agreements
(SWMA)?
– Keep using the AAS route. New S&S entitlements will be created in
PPA. At the anniversary date, the existing SWMA entitlements will be
converted and consolidated with the new PPA S&S entitlements.

– You can continue to order in PPA if you want. Or, you can move to the
AAS route to gain eConfig / ePricer support. The new process means
the new AAS orders will have their S&S entitlements added to your
existing PPA S&S entitlements.

For these cases, there
is one more topic to
discuss. eConfig will
not have an accurate
inventory of the
customer environment.
In order for eConfig to
accurately configure
additional TB’s of
tiered capacity
software, you will need
to give the starting
point.

eConfig Scenario
 For whatever reason, you do not have an accurate
eConfig Inventory File (.crf) for your customers IBM
Storage Software
 After talking to your customer, you learn that he has
the following:
– 15TB of SVC Base Virtualization
– 15TB of SVC FlashCopy
– 15TB of FlashCopy Manager
– 15TB of Tivoli Storage Productivity Center for Disk
 Your customer wants to buy 15TB of additional
capacity (30TB total) for all of the above

eConfig Scenario

Steps to configure the order in eConfig
1. Create a dummy base configuration file (.crf) in eConfig that
represents the current customer inventory
2. Load that dummy inventory file as your starting point for adding
the newly requested capacity
3. Save the resulting inventory file for future use
