A very bad strategy, on the beginning of the 70’s Siai Marchetti was sold
to AGUSTA (EFIM group , owned by the Italian state) they stopped all
projects and slowed down the civilian aircraft production, only the SF260
was considered strategical as a military trainer .
The below activities proposed by the Siai project team were blocked:
– Production of the two seater Siai 202 , the project was sold in Switzerland and
produced as FFA AS202
– Further development of the S205 / S208 project to improve the aerodinamics
characteristics
– Final development and production of the twin engine Siai 210 (6 seats)
– Development and production of the Siai 206 (6 seats)
– Find commercial alternatives Waco (USA) and AISA (Spain) , development of
the South African partner

How many are still in flying conditions ….. 100 - 150 ? Why only these ?
OPPORTUNITIES and PROBLEMS

It’s a platform still appreciated for the safety, solidity, stability and comfort, it’s ideal
for IFR and navigation. It’s not a rocket , but it’s reliable and it is still the most
comfortable and widest SEP !
Low purchase cost for a complex SEP
Maintenance
– Italian CAA additional maintenance controls (an Italian mess)
– Future availability of AVGAS, possible engine conversion to green fuel ?
– Aermacchi (owner of the type certificate) Oma (spare parts warehouse) , 0
SUPPORT BY THEM !
– Not in production spare parts (for example boost electrical pump Adel used in
S205 200 hp)
– Spare parts only produced by SIAI
– Future mandatory modifications
