¡Bienvenidos! Spanish is a course designed to
introduce students to the four language skills of
communication: speaking, listening, reading, and
writing, as well as the Hispanic culture. The students will
make connections with other subject areas, will make
comparisons with their own language and culture.
Everyone will be encouraged to think and expected
to speak in Spanish, rather than English. Students
should spend considerable time studying at home to
reinforce the daily class content. The amount of time
that a student devotes to this subject will be directly
proportional to the overall comprehension and
acquisition of the Spanish Language and to the
student’s success in the classroom.
I have high expectations for students in this course!
I also have high expectations for students to take the responsibility
for their own learning…to take charge of their own progress
and participation, and I give them major credit for taking that
step!
GRADE CATEGORIES & WEIGHT
 Major: Tests, Projects, Essays and Student Self Evaluation = 50%

Minor: Classwork, Comprehension checks, Class work, Quizzes,
= 50%
Students
are given the objectives we are focusing on each day
as well as checkpoints to determine if they have met those
objectives.
They
are posted when students walk into the classroom and
know to begin writing them in their notebooks as soon as they
enter the classroom.
At
the end of each class period or that evening, they are to
reflect on their own progress and participation and score
themselves. If they are at 80% or better, great job! Below 75%, they
need to come in for tutorials asap!
Their Self Evaluation of Progress and Participation may not vary
from their overall score average more than +/- 5 points.
