Preliminary Training
• To be a mechanical engineer, you need a bachelors degree
from a respected engineering college
• Besides just learning the basics of mechanical engineering,
perspective engineers need to also have a basic understanding
of civil, electrical and chemical engineering
• In this economy, the average salary for a mechanical engineer
is about $60,500 a year

Job Responsibilities
• A general saying for mechanical engineers is that they work on today and
tomorrows technical problems
• Mechanical engineers build things like ships, engines, planes, robots,
household appliances, and many more things. They also help redesign to
better a product that has issues

drafting blueprints, installing equipment, removing equipment, design and

The company is based out of Switzerland
They also make water jet cutting systems and metal bending
systems
• The American branch of the company is based out of Elgin,
Illinois

including many different types of each system

Jose Ibanez
• Has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from San Diego State
University
• Jose works for United Defense FCM Corporation as the Senior
Mechanical Engineer
• Along with a team of other mechanical engineers, Ibanez does
research, conducts stress tests, and other duties on military
vehicles

Thomas Bean
• Thomas Bean has a JD from Rutgers University, a MS in
Systems Engineering from Cornell University, and a BS in
Mechanical Engineering also from Cornell University
• At Corporate Counsel Lucent Technologies, Bean focuses
mainly on the legal issues of intellectual properties
• After developing products, Bean realized how many legal
issues there are surrounding company practices and stuff of
that sort
• In turn, he ended up going back to school to get a law degree
so he could better protect his companies ideas
