Renewable Energy Status for Saudi Arabia
 Saudi’s solar thermal energy of up to 2,550 KWH per m2 per year (twice
the average solar irradiation in Europe).
 KA-CARE was Established in 2010 to develop a future sustainable
alternative energy in the Kingdom.
 Aim to meet % of Saudi Arabia’s energy needs from renewable energy by
2020.
 KACST is building a 30,000 m3/day solar-powered seawater desalination
plant in Al-Kharfji.
 PTC (Polysilicon Technology Company) is building a 7,500 tons per year
high-quality polysilicon plant in Jubail.
 IDEA Polysilicon Company project in Yanbu to produce 10,000 tons/year
polysilicon, 20 million wafers & 19 million solar cells per year.
 Saudi Aramco is building a 10 MW photovoltaic solar carport system in
the Dhahran office complex.
 SEC has launched a solar power plant of an annual production of 864,000
KWH per year on Farasan Island.
