Student Technology Leadership Program Application (STLP) Heartland Elementary School The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) gives students the opportunity to become leaders in their school through the use of technology. A student technology leader helps adults and students at school. STLP students are involved in these activities: Using a digital camera/digital video camera, video editing, basic troubleshooting, software installation, computer maintenance and training others on software. Getting Out the News Heartland Elementary STLP students participated in the 2010 Fall Showcase at WKU. The project was called “The Hype with Skype.” Current Heartland Elementary STLP Projects Skype Project School Newscast Photographing school events Turn on/off computers Heartland Elementary School News Broadcasts Goal 1 The STLP will develop activities which enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student. Goal 2 The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students. The Heartland Elementary School news team produces a live news broadcast for the school each morning. STLP members serving on the news crew arrive at school 30-40 minutes early to work on the daily broadcast. News is presented for our school as well as announcements of high school and community activities. The crew consists of students from 4th-5th grade. Goal 3 Students will participate in multi-age collaboration by forming innovative learning partnerships. Goal 4 The STLP will form learning partnerships among students with different technology skills. The crew consists of students from 4th and 5th grades , with older students training younger students. Student directors work with students of varying technological skill levels to create continually add to and enhance existing skills. Goal 6 The STLP will develop instructional activities which integrates technology and benefits the school and supports KETS Our students help with setting up computer labs. They also help younger students log into the computer and into software programs such as Compass Learning and Accelerated Reader. Using Skype with students from Bluegrass Middle School about the 5th graders upcoming transfer into middle school gave not only the STLP students insight into what the future holds but also helped their fellow students now what to expect in middle school. Ways that You Promote your School Goal 2 The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students. Goal 5 The STLP will develop activities which benefit communities. STLP students are given the opportunity to show off our school by taking pictures of special events and activities at our school. The pictures and articles are often posted on the “Good News” page on the Hardin County School District web site. This gives the community and other students the opportunity to enjoy the happenings at Heartland Elementary School. Spelling Bee. The STLP students helped broadcast the spelling bee live for the whole school to watch. Student Participation at Local, District, and State Level Heartland Elementary students participated in the Fall Showcase at WKU. Heartland Elementary School students are scheduled to participate in a district showcase in the Spring. Heartland Elementary STLP Vision For The Future : Heartland Elementary School will continue to include more students and faculty in our STLP group. Heartland Elementary School will promote the good news about our school more actively and involve more technology in the articles.
