The mills generated can be used either to pay back a construction bond or to pay as you go for sinking fund projects. Property tax is calculated by taking the assessed value of a property, multiplying it by the mill rate and dividing it by 1,000. Example: $100,000 market value home has an approximate $50,000 State Equalized Value (SEV) for tax purposes. To calculate millage: $50,000 / 1000 = $50 per year in additional taxes for every 1 mill MENDON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2013 BOND PROPOSAL Current Debt Mills School Mills Sturgis 8.37 Mendon 7 Constantine 6.8 Three Rivers 6.3 Colon 5.6 Centreville 4.0 White Pigeon 3 Nottawa 0 Burr Oak 0 MENDON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2013 BOND PROPOSAL The Impact of a 1 mill Increase Home Market Value Taxable Value Average Annual Increase Average monthly tax increase $50,000 $25,000 $25 $5.17 $100,000 $50,000 $50 $4.16 $150,000 $75,000 $75 $6.25 $200,000 $100,000 $100 $8.33 www.mytaxcalc.com/mendon MENDON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2013 BOND PROPOSAL Investment by Type & Phase Category Phase 1 [2014-2017] Phase 2 [2017-2020] Phase 3 [2021-2024] Grand Total Percentage of total Building Renovation $2,787,600 $2,178,000 $976,000 $5,941,600 64% Athletics $0 $225,000 $22,000 $247,000 2% Tech $38,000 $0 $0 $38,000 0.4% Parking Lot $0 $210,000 $300,000 $510,000 5% Technology $400,000 $300,000 $300,000 $1,000,000 10% Security $204,000 $181,000 $30,000 $415,000 4% Grounds $246,000 $13,000 $29,000 $288,000 3% Demolition $205,000 $0 $0 $205,000 2% Buses $265,432 $203,078 $228,586 $697,096 7% Grand Total $4,146,032 $3,310,078 $1,885,586 $9,341,696 100% MENDON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2013 BOND PROPOSAL Next Steps Vote on February 25, 2014 MENDON COMMUNITY SCHOOLS 2013 BOND PROPOSAL
