PLASTICS & ENVIRONMENT
90 billion kilogram of plastics produced every year.
10 % of that ends up in our oceans, of which
70 % sinks (Polycarbonate, Polystyrene, and PETE),
causing damage to the ocean floor, &
30 % that floats, accumulates into massive islands
of trash (LDPE, HDPE, Polypropylene and foamed
plastics).
A United Nations report claims that there
are 46,000 pieces of plastic in every
square mile (=2.6 sq.km) of ocean.
GLOBAL WARMING - ANNUAL COSTS
BISPHENOL-A (BPA) IN FOCUS
BPA (bisphenol-A) in the lining of food cans, dental
sealants, paper money, receipts and other products
One study reports that eating canned goods
increases urinary BPA concentrations more than
1,000-fold.
Higher levels of urinary BPA associated with an
increased risk of heart disease, miscarriage, birth
defects, and Down syndrome.
High levels of BPA is also associated to obesity,
insulin resistance(diabetes) and cancer.
ATT BETÄNKA:
Natural Resources Defense
Council, estimates the annual
damage of global warming by
the end of the century to be
as much as
Cirka 25 procent av den genomsnittliga
svenskens klimatavtryck kommer från maten.
$1.9 trillion USD
Resten försvinner bl. a. som kroppsvärme hos
djuren.
Nötkött orsakar 40 ggr högre utsläpp än
t.ex. bönor, kyckling ”bara” 4 ggr.
Av den energi som nötkreatur
konsumerar blir bara 2 procent kvar
som kött, grisar 10 %, kyckling 15 %.

SLÄNGD MAT – ETT MILJÖPROBLEM
I Storbrittanien slänger man 28 procent
av den mat, som burits hem.
I Sverige slänger varje år ca 910 000 ton
mat, eller 56 kilo/person = 8000 SEK
per familj.
= 1.9 milj ton koldioxid per år,
motsvarande ett årligt utsläpp av
cirka 700 000 bilar eller 460 000
eldade villor.
Råd i ICA-kuriren:
i smoothies.

LIFESTOCK & GREEN HOUSE EMISSION
Greenhouse-gas emissions from the
agriculture sector account for about
22% of global total emissions, similar to
that of industry and 50 % greater than
that of transport.
Livestock production accounts for
nearly 80% of the sector's emissions.

GLOBAL WARMING – CONSEQUENCES OF
AGRICULTURE Steinfeld H et al 2006
• 37 % percent of produced methane gases,
a gas that has 22 times more global
warming potential than carbon dioxide
• 65 % of produced nitrous oxide comes
from manure, a gas that has 296 times
more global warming potential of carbon
dioxide
• 64 % of produced ammonia emissions,
which contributes to acid rain and
destruction of eco-systems
THE BURDEN OF METHANE
Over the last 300 years, the atmospheric
methane burden has grown 2.5-fold
97% of livestock
greenhouse emissions

WHAT CAN WE DO?
THE EASIEST WAY?
“A substantial contraction in
meat consumption in highincome countries should benefit
health, reducing the risk of
ischaemic heart disease obesity,
colorectal cancer etc”.
“Halting the increase of
greenhouse-gas emissions from
agriculture, especially livestock
production, should therefore be
a top priority, because it could
curb warming fairly rapidly.”

increasing access food to insulinotropic &
IGF-1-raising foods; dairy products (rich in
IGF1), grains & sugars (induce synthesis of

• The human genome has not, and will not,

should attempt to develop a more
Paleolithic-type diet.

• Individuals with congenital deficiency in IGF-I
(Laron syndrome) demonstrate a dramatic
reduction in pro-aging signaling and in rate of
cancer & diabetes etc
• Despite dwarfism, marked obesity, &
severely impaired metabolism ( often NAFLD)
do they experience longevity, the greater
majority being alive at high ages.
• Studies in both invertebrates (Drosphila) and
rodents (mice & rats) with induced IGF1
deficiency confirm these observations.

contrast to warm Okinawa much cold and snow has taken

the intake of vegetables and especially to reduce intake of
salt, was successful and brought Nagano to the top position.

Bill Clinton Turns 65
– and Vegan!
Friday Aug 18.2011
Once known for his love of barbecue and
impromptu stops at McDonald's, former
President Bill Clinton has radically changed
his diet, dropped weight and improved his health.
The former junk food lover now calls himself a vegan,
shunning meat, eggs, dairy and almost all oil.
"I like the vegetables, the fruits, the beans, the stuff I eat
now," Clinton tells CNN.
After experiencing periodic heart problems leading up to
the 2004 surgery,
Clinton has now lost 20 lbs. and says:
"I feel good, and I also have … more energy."

fowl or eggs is to participate indirectly in acts of
cruelty and violence against the animal kingdom.
The meat-eater's desire for meat drives another to
kill and provide that meat. The act of the butcher
begins with the desire of the consumer.
Meat-eating contributes to a mentality of
violence, for with the chemically complex
meat ingested, one absorbs the slaughtered
creature's fear, pain and terror.”
MORMONS & HEALTH
Enstrom JE, Breslow L. Prev Med 2008;46:133-136
Mormons (in the US > 6 mill) live by a health code called
the "Word of Wisdom." They abstain from alcohol,
tobacco, tea coffee, and emphasize fresh vegetables, to
honor the body - the temple of the spirit. I Cor. 3:16-17
Mormon males have a life expectancy of 84.1
years — 9.8 years longer than that of U.S. white
males (comp Sweden 78.7, globe 67.5).
Mormon females had a life expectancy of 86.1
years — 5.6 years longer than U.S. white females.
(comp Sweden 83.0, globe 73.3).
ADVENTISTS & HEALTH
The church (members World 13 mill, USA 1 mill) recommends
vegetarianism and expects adherence to the “kosher” laws in
Leviticus 11: special abstinence from pork, shellfish, and other
foods proscribed as "unclean“; alcohol, tobacco or illegal drugs,
some avoid coffee, tea, cola containing caffeine.
Life expectancy of a vegetarian Adventist woman is 85.7 years
(Sweden 83.0), and 83.3 years (Sweden 78.7) for a vegetarian
Adventist man, exceeding Le of other Californians by 6.1 years
for women and 9.5 years for men. (Comp. non-vegetarian
Adventist women of 84 years, and non-vegetarian men 81 years).
“Life expectancy drops 9-10 years for Adventists who
are overweight, past smokers, and non-vegetarian,
and who do not exercise or eat nuts regularly."
