SAN PABLO DAM ROAD DOWNTOWN ULTIMATE STREETSCAPE The Minimalist Approach with Adjustment • After discussion with Conservation & Development Department and Supervisor Gioia’s Office, it was decided that the Minimalist Approach would provide the uplift for the area desired without precluding future sidewalk widening or future enhanced landscaping. To facilitate future enhancement . . . • Adopt policy or guidelines for new land use permits in the area to increase sidewalk areas and landscaping and also make progress on a cooperative parking program. • For example, if a business were to undertake significant remodeling or reconstruction, they would be required to provide adequate setback from the fronting sidewalk to allow the sidewalk to be expanded in the future. • If a new business applied for a permit, they could be required to participate in a downtown landscaping fund or a maintenance fund or in a cooperative parking program.
