Energy Working Group

Formed in Spring 2009, lead by GOED to facilitate coordination, education, awareness and opportunities for state agencies and their partners engaged in economic development and energy matters.

Impact: duplication of efforts and gaps will be identified and minimized.

– Meets on a monthly basis and conducts tours of energy sites around the state

– Two groups spawned in areas where gaps have been identified

– One major event was also spurred

Goals

1) Connect existing and emerging businesses w/ growth opportunities in solar, wind, geo and ee industries.

Facilitate linking various players in the RE/EE supply chains in Utah to each other and to out-of-state contacts .

2) Create awareness of Utah’s support system for RE/EE.

Encourage businesses to leverage government, nonprofit, industry and utility programs and services to develop/expand.

Achieve a minimum of 200+ quality attendees.

Comprehend Utah’s RE/EE industry and marketplace.

Identify how RE/EE fits into the ENR Cluster.

Survey (investigate, examine, evaluate, assess) if Utah can compete for business/jobs in the new energy economy.

423 attendees; includes 251 paying attendees

17 states with the highest attendance from: UT, OH, CA and MA.

Special guests that paid their own accommodations to attend:

Gamesa, Enxco, Duke Energy, Austin Company, Zions Energy, KeyBank, Stoel Rives, Pacificorp, Enel, eBay,

RMT, Unison/DXP and Southwest Windpower.

The largest number of attendees self-selected their types of businesses as:

Consultants, contractors, education, government, law, manufacturers, nonprofits and service.
