Sustainable exploitation of the Atlantic seafloor's natural resources
3.1.
Policy framework
Improving cooperation between Universities, observatories, research institutes, industry, on matters
underpinning the development of a diverse maritime industrial base.
3.2.
Key investment needs
Supporting the development of seabed mining and exploration industry and services, including adapted
infrastructure in ports and offshore.
Supporting the further development of marine biotech industries and the commercialization of their
products.
3.3.
Key research needs
Increasing research, development and innovation on seabed mapping and assessment of biological and
mineral resources, deep sea and coastal environments and biodiversity.
Operationalisation of the Atlantic component of the European Marine Observation & Data Network
(EMODnet).
Research supporting the development of deep sea hydrocarbon exploration and mining technologies
(minerals, hydrocarbons and rare earths).
The assessment and monitoring of potential environmental impacts and their mitigation.
