PROFILE
Giovanna Di Rosario (MA, M.P.S., MSSc.) received her PhD in Digital
Culture at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. Her PhD thesis was one
of the two finalists of the prestigious Finnish Agora Doctoral
Dissertation Award. She has also been awarded 6 individual
scholarships for research in 4 different countries (Italy, Switzerland,
Spain, and Finland).
From 2001 to 2005, she was an Assistant Professor to the Chair of General
Linguistics at the University of Siena. From 2005 to 2006, she was a
visiting scholar at the University of Geneva, and from 2007 to 2008, she
was a visiting scholar at the University of Jyväskylä. From 2008 to 2010,
she worked at the IN3 — Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (Barcelona,
Spain) under the direction of Prof. Manuel Castells. In 2010, she moved
back to Finland and worked for the department of Art and Culture Studies
of the University of Jyväskylä where she taught electronic literature and
new media semiotics. Di Rosario is currently an Associate Professor of the
University of Barcelona where she is also the Associate Director of
Hermeneia research group (www.hermeneia.net) devoted to the study of
literature and new media. She is also a research member of the CPSTLERASS, Centre Pluridisciplinaire de Sémiotique Textuelle —
Laboratoire d'Études et de Recherches Appliquées en Sciences Sociales,
Université de Toulouse 2 — Le Mirail, and of other research groups
devoted to the study of literature and new media. In 2013, Di Rosario
also worked for the IT University of Copenhagen where she taught digital
rhetoric.

Di Rosario’s research interests are multiple and varied: comparative
literature, digital culture, semiotics and semiotics of new media,
transmedia storytelling, digital rhetoric and digital aesthetics, and also
the theory and practice of translation in the digital environment.
INTERZONES
Apart from being a member of the Academic Council of the EMJD
Interzones and the local co-coordinator (along with Prof. Laura Borràs),
Di Rosario contributes to the Interzones Agenda through her expertise
in the research areas of critical theory, comparative literature,
transmedia storytelling, electronic literature and digital rhetoric.
MAIN PUBLICATIONS
Di Rosario has published nearly 30 articles in academic journals and/or
book chapters devoted to the study of traditional literature and to the
study of literature in the digital environment. More recent publications
include: "Trans-former la poésie: formes émergeantes de poésies
numériques" (2011), "Analysing Electronic Poetry. Three Examples of
Textualities in Digital Media" (2013). She co-edited "OLE. Officina di
Letteratura Eettronica" (2011), a volume devoted to the study of
literature and new technologies, and published a book on electronic
poetry, Electronic Poetry. Understanding Poetry in the Digital
Environment (2011). Di Rosario is also the managing editor of the
International Journal of Transmedia Literacy published by LED Edition!
