This has greatly contributed to the institutions web rankings. @ Providing Access to Makerere University’s Research Output ♣ At initiation, USDL had a national perspective, with the objective of fostering collaboration with other institutions in Uganda. It now operates at institutional level, but still encourages other institutions to set up institutional repositories that would enable easy sharing of information. ♣ Through outreach, the Library in collaboration with DICTS, is willing to provide DSpace consultative support to institutions in Uganda. @ Providing Access to Makerere University’s Research Output http://www.dspace.org DSpace is an open source software platform that can be downloaded free of charge and used to create digital repositories. DATAD @ Integrating Makerere University’s Research in Africa PARTICIPATING INSTITUTIONS • AAU has worked with eleven pioneering institutions since 1998. • Makerere University being one of the pioneer members. • So far Makerere University has contributed 3,518 records of Masters and PhD’s to DATAD, providing the bibliographic information and abstracts. It is hosted by the World Health Organisation. • AIM is a compilation of national databases, with information collected from national focal points like Ministries of health, Faculties of medicine, Public health schools, Academic & Specialised libraries, and Research institutes. AIM @ Providing Access to African Health Information • In Uganda, the College of Health Sciences and the Albert Cook Medical Library host a local database (Uganda Health Literature Database), from which bibliographic information is sent to the AIM database. • One of AIM’s major objectives is to improve visibility of health and biomedical research carried out in African countries.
