FROM TURFFONTEIN TO TURFFONTEIN 23 March’10 – 29 October’11(19 months & 6 days) Presented by Secretary General 1 BRIEF BACKGROUND Vosloorus Phuthanang B.S championed the idea in 1989 SACC Conference 2005 resolution on morals Establishment of Funeral Industry Forum Task team 2006 EBSASSO est. in 2008 Idea got supported by Inseta 2009 through interaction with G.R and A.M Burial Society Indaba launched in 2010, Turffontein 2 PURPOSE OF BURIAL SOCIETY INDABA IN TURFFONTEIN(22&23 March 2010 To bring Burial Societies in and around S.A To create a platform for B.S to collectively champion their own mandate. To create a mandatory structure that will represent and negotiate on behalf of B.S 3 NEC MANDATE To Draft a Constitution To legalise BUSOSA To establish Provincial structures and UNITE B.S To prepare an elective Conference To constructively engage stakeholders on the transformation of the Funeral and Insurance Industry To create economic sustainability for members and the Organisation 4 DRAFTING CONSTITUTION Immediately after NEC elections, there was an open invitation for submissions towards the drafting and compilation of an interim Constitution. On the 8th May the new draft constitution was adopted and signed into BUSOSA’s law by the Chairperson and Secretary General. We are therefore bound as members of BUSOSA to comply in all respect 5 BUSOSA AS A LEGAL ENTITY We are fully registered as a section 21 company( Reg No 2010/015830/08) We are a NPO and CBO ( Non Profiting and Community based Organisation) We are a Unitary structure with powers vested with National Conference(NC) and National Executive Committee( NEC) We were initially housed in Germiston, due to financial constraints we then relocated to Vosloorus Lesedi Complex suite 54(011) 906-2800 6 PROVINCIAL STRUCTURES AND ELECTIVE CONFERENCE We were tasked to roll-out the establishment of nine(9) Provincial structures, subsequently we partnered with INSETA who assisted us to fulfil the task. We visited five Provinces(Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Free State and KZN) and were only successful to launch Gauteng, Mpumalanga,NW and Free State We still consider revisiting other Provinces with intention to launch. Our Provincial target for membership recruitment drive for each province is 27 000 x 9 = 243 000 by end Nov 2012 Subsequent to launching all Provinces, we were then to convene an elective conference 7 TRANSFORMATION OF FUNERAL INDUSTRY AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY We are currently in consultation with relevant Government Departments responsible i.e. DTI, TREASURY, FSB, INSETA and NCR, SALGA and FUNERAL PARLOURS) Burial Societies contribute the sum of R4,5b per annum(source, research from Inseta) There are 100 000 formal registered BS countrywide(source research from Inseta) We have established an investment company(BUSOHOLD) 8 ACHIEVEMENTS Adopted constitution and policies 15 ooo.00 members to date. Youth IMBIZO in Hammanskraal Corporate identity and colours Acquiring offices in Vosloorus Formal relationship with Private and Public sector Recognition and Acceptance of BUSOSA by B.S and communities Establishment of BUSOSA website(www.busosa.co.za) Registered BUSO-HOLD 9 CHALLENGES No basic resources to fulfil our mandate e.g. Rentals for office, office infrastructure, financial resource to fund programmes and personnel. Roll out of recruitment drive to reach target of 243 000( R250.00 annual membership fee) Provincial launches 10 PROPOSED WAYFORWARD We propose that BUSOSA consider STRATEGIC PARTNESHIP as a matter of urgency to formalise relationship for immediate benefit with identified business entities for sustaining the programmes of the Organisation e.g. 500 volunteer traffic warders, B.S empowerment projects, Moral R.P, Funeral Parlour/Services summit, more details later That we officially endorse the resumption for NATIONAL RECRUITMENT DRIVE CAMPAIGN of individual Burial societies to join as members in BUSOSA effective from today That we, the delegates present today declare to support BUSOSA in all their endeavour to better the well being and represent the interest of our members and communities to the best of our ability.(TURFFONTEIN DECLARATION OF INTENT) That all stakeholders within the Funeral and Insurance Industry establish a Working committee with intention to look into the formalisation and regulation of the Industry. 11 THE END........
