community based charity Charity number 1048996 Cathryn Thom – Funding and Development Manager Bramley Baths community based charity Background • In February 2011 Leeds City Council announced the plans to reduce opening hours at the baths with potential future closure. • BARCA-Leeds with West Leeds MP Rachel Reeves and Cllr Ted Hanley organised a public meeting to discuss what this will mean to the local community and how it can be prevented. • BARCA involvement was to talk to the group about the community taking over the baths with our support. community based charity Friends of Bramley Baths • In May 2011 Friends of Bramley Baths was formed with people represented from BARCA and the local community. • June 2011 LCC put out an invitation for expressions of interest and FOBB through BARCA declared an expression of interest. • In January 2012 FOBB submitted a full 100 page business plan to LCC with full market research, 5 year budgets, sensitivity analysis, vision, mission and purpose, and need for the project • In May 2012 the council said yes to the business plan and also that they would support FOBB in the first couple of years if we got into financial difficulty. • FOBB are in the process of setting up a BENCOM with the baths due to open in January 2013. community based charity Top 10 Tips 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
