Topic: A Novel Platform Technology for the Conversion of Waste
Biomass to Renewable Bioproducts
NWO divisions: STW, Chemical Sciences

Focus
Develop an in-depth understanding of the fermentation of organic
material to VFA (volatile fatty acids) under non-sterile conditions
Develop efficient methods to recover VFA from fermentation broths
Develop novel processes for the efficient conversion of VFA to renewable
biobased products
Status

Pipeline
For 2012/2013 up till now NWO invested ~M€ 10 in BBE under
the top sector policy.
Investments in BBE will further increase, since:
Numbers on curiosity driven research (talent schemes and
response-mode research) will appear by the end of 2013.
The Fund New Chemical Innovations is still open.
