La Regio insubrica in short
The Regio Insubrica Working Community was set up in 1995 in
Varese, from the Canton Ticino and the Provinces of Como, Varese
and Verbano Cusio Ossola (the Provinces of Novara and Lecco were
added in 2006), as an association with private law in accordance
with the 1980 Madrid declaration on cross-border cooperation.
It has about 100 members. These include, as well as the five
Italian Provinces and the Canton Ticino, numerous municipalities
of the region, cultural and business associations, university level
institutions, regional development bodies of the Canton Ticino,
the Mountain Communities of the Italian Provinces, natural and
juridical persons.
It promotes cross-border cooperation in the Italian-Swiss Three
Lakes Pre-Alp region and promotes the awareness of belonging
to a territory that is manifested, beyond its national boundaries,
in its geography, history, culture and language.
Under the banner of a border that unites, the Regio Insubrica
presents itself as a young and adaptable means for strategic
territory management. Its protagonists are encouraged to
go beyond thinking on a purely local level, without ignoring
differences which are a source of enrichment, and cooperate in
the name of what unites the territory.
Regio Insubrica operates with the firm belief that the integration
of the extensive resources of the insubrico territory, through
cooperation, and the development into a functional area, will
release new resources and energies and offer new prospects for
growth to those who live, work and spend their free time in this
region.
An example of how these principles are being implemented is
the joint tourism promotion for the Provinces and Canton, through
the “Lakes and Alps “ site. This aims to promote awareness
and appreciation of the territory, its high level of excellence in
hospitality, products, sites and the cultural and sports events it
can offer.
